The V8 isn't going away...
It is called talking out of both sides of their mouths...The truth is, whatever plans they had yesterday can change for tomorrow...
They will make the V8 until they don't, it could be 2 years, 20 years, or never... abit never is perhaps at the far end of that time scale!
It would be unlikely for them to drop V8s any time soon. Though I can see a time when it happens. Cheap gas isn't going to be forever. There are a lot of ways to make a fun to drive car. V8s are not the end all be all. They are my personal choice, but if it isn't around anymore, I'll find something else that I like. I would have given the BRZ a chance if I had any curvy roads around here. I am glad that I will be an old man by the time V8s go away, but I don't feel bad for future generations. They will have their own cars to get excited about.
All we need is that blasted formula for synthetic gasoline that's locked away in some bunker in Saudi Arabia...then we can all have 1000hp supercharged V12 daily drivers that get 40mpg. Too bad the sheikhs want to pillage the earth first before revealing that they had the formula all along...

No need to worry about a V8 as long as they are in the F150. If the 5.0 disappears from the F150 save your pennies for the Ford (Should have called it SVT) Performance model.
Then again maybe not as a lot of the Mustang's appeal is being a V8 muscle even if people just putt around in a GT and a sure way to concede the war to GM and FCA would be to dump the V8 for a sixxer even if it was boosted to 420-500 hp and offered better driving dynamics.
