TPMS Variations

I did not see a thread dedicated to the several varieties of TPMS that exist, so I thought I would start one and try to get some input from everyone.

For background, I ordered a staggered set of FRPP Laguna Seca wheels (M-1007KIT-DC19910LGB which includes 4 TPMS) and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 N-Spec (265/40R19 - 4 tires) winter tires for my new Mustang. When I receive the wheels, I will mount the Michelins on the black PP wheels and store them for winter use at Discount Tires for $75, and mount the staggered Pirellis on the FRPP wheels for the summer.

Before I got my car, I also bought 4 2015 Mustang TPMS (F2GT-1A180-AB/F2GT-1A150-AB) from CJPony who said they will definitely fit my 2015 Mustang.

After I got the car, I checked with Forts Parts at the local Ford dealer, who looked up my VIN and said my car takes the F2GZ-1A189-A TPMS. These are backordered till June 1st.

Prior to posting this thread, I found a number of references to using older TPMS on 2015 Mustangs which worked fine. I do not believe I saw one instance where an earlier TPMS was found to NOT work.

When I receive the new wheels, I will have them assembled with tires and TPMS at Discount who has done a good job for our family in the past.

Does anyone know if you can test a TPMS before it is mounted? Can you test one wheel/tire/TPMS assembly before you install all of them?

The goal is to get a set of working TPMS from the get-go, without having to re-install anything.

I would greatly appreciate your input, comments and suggestions.

Thanks for your reply, Yugo. Do you know if Ford uses the same system on all platforms? I have a set of those same TPMS, so that would be cool.

Update: I installed the new wheels with the CJPony TPMS and everything worked fine, so I believe a variety of TPMS would work. As long as they are the right frequency.
