No. I don't believe Ford intends the next Mustang to be a 2.5, exactly. I expect the focus will still be more on the sporty side than on the economy side. However, I think customers will have to adjust their definition of a Mustang to include an I4 as well as a V8. Not that an I4 is a bad thing--just a sign of the times. (A turbo I4 with 330-340HP might be enough to make me want to swap my MazdaSpeed3 for a new Mustang!)

(BTW the Arab Oil Embargo began in October of '73--the Mustang II had already been designed, built, pushed to the dealers by the time the oil crisis hit. I still to this day don't know whether it was foresight on the part of Lee Iacocca or just blind luck. Whichever, the Mustang II was the right product at the right time.)

We will not likely see numbers like these again. It was a different market in the early 70's where the domestic manufacturers built about 3 out of every 4 cars sold.

Ya this whole Mustang II scare is getting a bit old. Comparing what happened 30 years ago to the present with a completely different market with different people involved that are making the decisions and different circumstances is pointless.

Like the company that just brought out the Raptor, the most powerful production V8 ever, and finally brought the Focus ST over here is going to completely change the Mustang into a limp euro-economy car overnight?

The sky is not falling people.

Too bad it was geared like crap; 65mph was 3200 RPM. Put a good V8 in there and watch out!

Happy 40th Anniversary to the Malaise Era

AutoBlog: Apr 17th 2013 http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/17/h...e-malaise-era/

"Pollution regulations, safety standards and a fuel crisis that saw pump prices skyrocket created the perfect mediocrity storm that forced Americans – and most of the rest of the world – into cars that were as bland and gutless as the Carter administration. The start of the malaise era is roughly marked by the Arab oil embargo of 1973 and the resulting great muscle car extinction, and it lasted until the introduction of the 200 hp + Buick Regal Grand National and the Ford Mustang GT 5.0 in 1985."

How about this idea. If the people who don't like the 2015 mustang , then DON'T BUY THE FREAKING THING. Keep your current mustang. Or buy pre owned older model. Ford isn't going to make everybody happy with the new design. Someone out there won't like it. That's the nature of the business. Don't buy it if you don't like it.
