The stripes on my 05 from the factory were vinyl. They lasted through 2 Wisconsin winters and car washes. Sold the car after that so I can't speak to the durability beyond 2 winters.

Oh and the stripes were on the lower part of the door so they really got pounded by both salt spray and the car wash's "Rocker Jets". (Like you I didn't have a choice but to send it through a car wash in the winter.)
Also, the car was only garaged part of the time. Single car garage and 2 cars meant some nights it was outside. I remember one night the temp (not the wind chill) was forecast to get to -25 F. I remember because it was the only time I used the engine block heater.

I did vinyl and so far it's holding up well. 3M is top notch. Install wasn't really too difficult. When I was looking into stripes I got a couple estimates and they were all 10times what I spent for vinyl. Plus if I wanna change them out it's no big deal. I already got my money's worth. I've had them on since January of last year and they have gone through two winters in Germany.
