The Thunderbird had an IRS in the previous gen as well from 1989 - 1997. This is (should not) be new technology. In fact hasn't the Corvette had an IRS for almost ever?

I'm not a SRA hater in fact I'm happy with my '06 but I am disappointed when the rear steps out in mid-corner bumps. I am used to it but its just natural to want things to evolve for the better. There's no reason Ford can't make an IRS suitable for 98% of the buyers. The other 2% (and that me be too high) that hard core drag race should be able to upgrade or swap with S197's for a solid axle. Or just buy a solid axle setup from FRPP.

Just my $0.02

Everybody here seems to think that doesn't ever happen with IRS. That opinion would be wrong.

Sure it happens with an IRS but it always seems more exaggerated in a solid axle vehicle.

And btw an opinion can't be wrong - it's an opinion

Easy. Just use a Ford 9" center section. Can't get more bulletproof than that. Built-in Ford Racing and aftermarket support from the get-go. Make the rest of the IRS equally strong and be happy.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere as I couldn't take reading this entire thread. Anyway, what type of rear suspension does the current Aussie Falcon have? I thought it was an IRS and I'm also pretty sure there is an available supercharged 5.0L, all be it a de-tuned version which could be necessary because of the IRS...

I believe it does have IRS. But why would that mean the supercharged 5.0 would need to be detuned?

I think it has less to do with the IRS and more to do with the quality of fuel available.

That's a cool set up but if you want an even better option go with a heidts System. It uses CV joints that are alot stronger than U-joints. They don't make a bolt in for the stang but you could adapt one to work with minimal effort. Just need to fab up some mounting points and get a new drive shaft.
