As anyone upgraded their manual with a short throw shifter yet?

I was looking at the sideways display of a 2015 at the LA Car Show and they are definitely using the same shifter as has been in the 2011-14 runs. With an aftermarket short throw shifter, you will have a couple of years of good shifts but, since the Reverse Lockout plate is cast aluminum, the steel of the Shifter Lockout will carve a groove and you will go into Reverse when you think you should be in First. Only the MGW shifter solves that problem as it replaces both Lockout components with high grade materials. Since installing mine, I never worry about not finding First or, any other gear for that matter. Go for the Gold - Get the MGW Shifter.

 

Another forum has the MGW Shifter reviewed but it is not out yet for the 2015. It looks great though.

 

How much do they cost? And what difference do you feel on normal driving?

How complicated is it to install?

 

The cost was about $385 and is worth every penny. Since the replaced the entire shifter assembly there is more to it than the other products out there but it is so well engineered. As I stated above, the OEM housing is aluminum and the steel in the aftermarket shifter will tear through it in about 2-3 years. This will happen with any other product than MGW - just a fact. They also have the two pins that attach to their shifter bracket (part of the unit) which gives great firmness. If you add up the cost of a short throw shifter and a rear bracket, you are probably talking at least $300 and something will eventually fail. The MGW reverse locking plate and shifter lockout pin are coated with a coating used in many firearms for it wear resistance, certified for 10 of thousands of swipes. Check their websites and do some research - I think you will come to the same conclusion as other - MGW is simply the best!

 

I've been out of my '12 GT for 18 months or so, but both the V6 and GT '15 I drove felt noticeable shorter than what I remember. And isn't the 'new shifter' one of the things they tout as an improvement?

Hi Wannabe, I agree the case for the level of improvement with the current shifter is out and I hope Ford has fixed the problems we have encountered with this transmission. I have see that they have improved the rear bracket over the '11 version but, I did not start having problems with my shifter until about 6 months after buying it. My point is if you want to replace the shifter at this point, MGW is the way to go. I get no kickbacks for saying this, just an ultra satisfied customer!
