My test drive of the '15 Ecoboost & '15 GT compared to my '11 5.0
I think that most of you are curious, like I was for a test drive of the '15 Mustang compared to our present 5.0 (mine is a '11 GT with the Brembo package, 3.73 gear and manual transmission). The first one that I tried on my test drive was a beautiful looking white with blue stripes, track packaged automatic Ecoboost, after my test drive I was not at all interested on the car, it felt very heavy for that small engine, also noticed that it took very long to drop the rpms when I release the accelerator, if I wanted to drop it I had to instead use the paddle shift, I felt very disappointed of this car, it did not felt like a Mustang, I remembered that in one of my trips I rented a '14 V6 automatic transmission Mustang and it was faster compared to the Ecoboost mule. Then I steeped into a 50th. dark blue aniversary GT automatic transmission that I believe it had the track package included (wider 275's Pirelli's at the back) & 3.50 gear, the car felt very fast, to a point that I did not miss the stick of my '11 std. transmission, I could heard a strong inspiring noise from the engine, and even in full auto felt very fast, to be sincere I could not distinguish the IRS from my '11 GT rear axle feeling, I did not had a close place to try it on curves, just two highway "U" turns, the cooling of the seats was great, even I had to turn it off after a while. I was really surprised, with the engine & transmission setup.
Looking at the exterior and interior of the car, the '15 Mustang looks way better in person than in the magazines or web pictures, but not enough to persuaded me to change my present car, I did not had that old enthusiastic feeling compared to when I first bough my '11 GT 5.0. Probably for newcomers it will be more attractive. I don't know something it's missing on this car. Spirit?

Worth looking into. I have not seen that listed but I would be interested as well. An automatic for me has some benefits however if it comes with the exclusion of the PP I might have to get the standard trans.
That is correct. Now if I could find out what the difference is between the GT standard rear end and the Torsen rear end that comes with the PP option. Also what would the RPM be at 60 MPH in the GT auto trans VS the RPM at 60 MPH in the GT with the PP option ( standard trans) ?
I watched a video test the other night of the 2015 ecoboost. The reviewers liked the car but it turned in pretty much identical numbers to the S197 V6 to the point that even on the Willow Springs road course the lap time difference was less than 1 second difference. I think, don't quote me, but I know it was so close as to essentially be the same performance level. If I were in the market for a 2015 Mustang I think I would probably just go with the V6 as a daily driver sort of Mustang. The GT is a great weekend car, although if gas stays as low as it is it could easily be a daily driver without costing an owner a fortune in gas.

Okay the result was
Ecoboost Mustang 1:27.85
V6 Mustang 1:29.09 (S197)
A difference of 1.24 seconds. In a race on a road course that's a pretty big difference but on the street where most of these cars will be driven, its pretty much dead even. Both of those lap times were achieved with Randy Probst at the wheel of each car. On the street you'll have different drivers with different levels of skill. The road surface conditions in one lane can be substantially different than the lane next to it by way of pot holes, bumps etc etc. Then of course there is tire condition from one car to the next. Benchmark racing is one thing and it gives us an idea about the performance level of these cars. But when people get out there on the streets and try to get their Fast & Furious on it's a whole different ball game. I'm personally not a fan of street racing even if its just a couple guys running out of a street light. But we have to be realistic and recognize that it happens and it happens a lot. On my way home the other night some guy in a 99 - 04 GT tried to goad me into a race. We were on a highway, it was late at night and admittedly there was no one around but I still wouldn't play with him because I know that stretch of road. Sure enough, not 20 seconds later we passed a State Trooper with his radar running. Not worth it. I push my car when it's just me and I'm alone on the road and nobody is going to get hurt but that's another story.
I think the reality is that the vast majority of ecoboost and V6 Mustangs that get sold are going to be daily driver cars, not race driven. In that regard, they are so evenly matched or closely matched as to be almost no different.
