If you're constantly adjusting your speed, you're eating into your fuel economy. I'm a fan of cruise control when used properly. Besides heeding the warning about using it on ice/frost/snow, a thoughtful driver will still use the accelerator when passing. It does drive me crazy when I'm on a four-lane highway stuck behind two oblivious drivers who are driving side by side at almost the exact same speed, because the passer is too discourteous or lazy to pass and get out of the way.

Heh, I use cruise control to see how good my fuel economy can be. Otherwise it pretty much stays off.

Now if Ford introduced an adaptive cruise control that didn't require me constantly fiddling with it as I moved in traffic I might be more inclined to use it.

They listed it as a 4.9L because 302 cubic inches is 4.94889 liters. It doesn't matter what motor it is. If the it displaces 302 ci, it's a 4.9L.

They had all of the displacements wrong. The 3.7 is listed as a 3.8, the 2.3 as a 2.4 and the 5.0 as a 4.9. I think they used generic numbers as a what if situation. The 2.4 makes more horsepower than the 3.8 so "wouldn't you rather have the smaller more fuel efficient more powerful engine?" They are trying to see how many Mustang owners would accept the more efficient engines moving forward into the new age of government mandated fuel economy standards. I wouldn't lend any credence to any of the numbers listed. That's my take on it anyway.

That's incorrect

The bore is 92.2mm and the stroke is 92.7mm

This works out to a displacement of 4.9513367 liters

So how many cubic inches does that make it?
How many ci's were the other 302's? (60's, fox, etc)
Do you have the bore and displacement of those?

Great info. Thanks for the correction.

As I recall, the old one was about 301.9 ci and the Coyote is about 302.1. So they both round to 302 ci, but while the old was a tiny bit shy of 4.95, the new one is ever so slightly more than 4.95, which can accurately be rounded up to 5.0.

The old one had a bore of 4" (101.6mm) and a stroke of 3"(76.2mm)

That's comes to 301.5936ci or 4.942L

As you can see completely different bore and stroke but the numbers end up close to the same

To bad the Coyote doesn't have a 4" bore, that would be worth another 10 or 15hp just due to all that extra real estate allowing for bigger valves and/or less shrouding.
