Lightbulb Moonroof ?

I'd love to see Ford offer a moonroof option in the new Mustang. I've always wondered why they don't ? Could it be a head room issue ? GM does it with the Camaro. Anyway, I think it would be a super popular option, that IMHO wouldn't take anything away from the look of the car, except for the interior which I could live with. Any thoughts ? Scott

The Camaro doesn't need the extra rigidity like the stang does. HA!

Should be the other way around.. I've been in a new Camaro. It creaks and makes noises with the moonroof, at least the one I was in..

The GM probably creaks & rattles W/O the moonroof, LOL. Never thought I'd like a moonroof but my last 2 F-150's & BMW's came with & I really love them now ! Scott

Why's is called a moonroof and not a sunroof? You open it at night? Or during the day when it's sunny?

Sliding Panoramic Roof is coming. I'm betting on it. That's why there was no Glass Roof for 2015...still in development.

A moonroof is a type of sunroof that was coined by Ford in the '70s.

I prefer a Targa top (like the Vettes) or event the vintage T-tops like my old '87 Mustang GT , however, you won't see either of them anytime soon.

I'm sure a glass roof option, or maybe even a retractable panoramic roof, like the Lincoln, is in the works- more likely the former.

I would like to see how a glass top would change the roof. Or an operational moon roof.

I'm sure they will at some point, but I'm glad they don't, as dealers tend to order crappy options on vehicles simply to raise the price of the cars on their lots, just like Navigation.

I have one in my GT. No blindspot issues either.

Love mine also! It's a pretty uncommon option though.

Heck, when I was shopping around, 3 of the 4 dealerships I talked with had salespeople that were trying to discourage me from getting the option.

Since the sunroof retracts to open, and the moonroof doesn't, they just coined the term to differentiate between the two.

The reason is marketing/legal. They have to call it something different, lest confusion sets up. "You call this a sunroof? It's *MANUAL* and doesn't go back into the top!!"

It would happen. Hence, different name.

GM

I think GM called their roof the Astro Roof. Wasn't that the dog in the Jetsons?

The Camaro sunroof opens up on the outside of the body and one in the Mustang would likely need to do the same as there is no room inside to lower the headliner especially in the back seat.

I feel if the sunroof can't retract inside the roof, don't bother doing it. I would even prefer the "old-school removable" type like the FOX Mustangs before I'd want one that retracts over the roof like the Camaro.

If Ford goes with a Glass Roof like the S-197, I would consider this as well.

I don't think the roof profile on the 15 will allow for a glass, moon, or sun roof.
This was another reason I bought the 14.
I consider a glass roof a " must have " option..
