I'd love to see Ford offer a moonroof option in the new Mustang. I've always wondered why they don't ? Could it be a head room issue ? GM does it with the Camaro. Anyway, I think it would be a super popular option, that IMHO wouldn't take anything away from the look of the car, except for the interior which I could live with. Any thoughts ? Scott

The GM probably creaks & rattles W/O the moonroof, LOL. Never thought I'd like a moonroof but my last 2 F-150's & BMW's came with & I really love them now ! Scott

A moonroof is a type of sunroof that was coined by Ford in the '70s.
I prefer a Targa top (like the Vettes) or event the vintage T-tops like my old '87 Mustang GT
, however, you won't see either of them anytime soon.
I'm sure a glass roof option, or maybe even a retractable panoramic roof, like the Lincoln, is in the works- more likely the former.

I'm sure they will at some point, but I'm glad they don't, as dealers tend to order crappy options on vehicles simply to raise the price of the cars on their lots, just like Navigation.
The reason is marketing/legal. They have to call it something different, lest confusion sets up. "You call this a sunroof? It's *MANUAL* and doesn't go back into the top!!"
It would happen. Hence, different name.
The Camaro sunroof opens up on the outside of the body and one in the Mustang would likely need to do the same as there is no room inside to lower the headliner especially in the back seat.
I feel if the sunroof can't retract inside the roof, don't bother doing it. I would even prefer the "old-school removable" type like the FOX Mustangs before I'd want one that retracts over the roof like the Camaro.
If Ford goes with a Glass Roof like the S-197, I would consider this as well.
