This looks like the exhaust crossover seen on the IRS undercar shots

This patent seems to explain the apparent 'box' seen at the front end of the exhaust we've seen on the mules. a more complex replacement for the H-pipe

What are the benefits to this design? It's an interesting concept. As long as you can still easily change exhaust components like on the '11+ cars, I think it's fine.

Part of the thinking behind the chamber patent drawing above is harmonic tuning. When both exhaust pipes sides are identical a harmonic from one side will reinforce the harmonic from the other side raising the volume and creating a drone. When one side is slightly different than the other this harmonics will fall at different pitches this will smooth out the tone and be less likely to boost any one set of frequencies and therefore have less chance of harmonic drone. This has been used for years. I did it when I moved one of my M80s back and left one forward. The differences in position made a slight difference in frequencies from each side eliminating the slight drone when the two mufflers were in the same place.
