I think 1964 might be the anniversary. I was at Ellsworth AFB, SD, in 1964, when a white Mustang notch back was delivered to the local dealer, at night. The car was hidden in the back of the lot, but we saw it being unloaded from the transporter.
My wife and I then saw the Mustang at the New York Worlds Fair, in Aug 1964, when we were on our honeymoon enroute to an assignment in Italy. I would be curious to see what date Ford is using as the intro date for the original..

Original Mustang was introduced to the public on April 17th, 1964. The first Mustang was a 1965 model, despite the fact that the early ones are affectionately known as 64 1/2's. The new one will be a 2015 introduced in the spring of 2014. But, hey, we all knew this, right?

I sooooooooooo hope this is the route they take, but Mays' comments from Frankfurt make me think they're will abandon this approach
Take one '67 Mustang as inspiration and give us something like Burningman's stunning effort.
One of the reasons I bought my '05 was I love the style of the '65-70 Mustangs, but wanted it in a modern package. I love the fact I can trace details of my car's design back to those '65 models.
I think the image above could actually be classed as being more "modern" than the S197, which is quite a boxy design, yet for me it takes all the beauty of the older car, but with modern detailing.

FWIW this was Ford's public announcement via Bloomberg on 9.13:
So I just heard the official Ford public announcement via Bloomberg news brief for the (quoting) ''redesigned version of its Mustang sports car, but Ford's VP says you'll have to wait for the 2014 model - and that revamped Mustang will honor the Mustang 50th anniversary".

Anniversary Year
To be perfectly honest and as a couple of us has been saying: There was never a reason to doubt that MY14 was going to be the redesign. Now did the mustang come out in April of 1964--YES, however Ford has been going by the 64.5MY as the first mustang in its history. Proof of that comes in its MY anniversaries of the car as i pointed out a while back and the fact that Ford officials keep refering to it.
Is it possible that things could change at the last moment...sure but for now I'am holding my ground that MY14 is the 50th. Oh and one last thing....if it does pan out that what I say is correct these people(and they know who they are) with 'insiders' have a lot to answer to
