Insurance premium difference between V6 and 5.0
Insurance premium difference between V6 and 5.0
I have a 2012 V6 'vert that I absolutely love. I've been thinking for a while that I'd trade it in for a 2015 at the end of this year. Initially I thought I'd get the EcoBoost model for sure, but lately I've been craving smoother power and the V8 rumble like a crack-fiend.
As an aside, I bought my wife a 2014 Titanium Focus last year and with the summer months affording me copious opportunities to enjoy the top down on the 'vert I've been toying with talking her into inheriting my 'vert and trading in the Focus on the 2015 Mustang instead.
Anyway, does anybody have a pretty good idea how much the difference in insuring the 5.0 in comparison with the V6 Convertible? I suspect that it being a convertible might offset some of the savings with the V6 engine.

I have new car replacement coverage on my 2014 GT Prem convertible. I'm paying $100 more per year than for my 2012 Fusion SEL V6 which has identical coverage except for the new car replacement. My ex-wife's 2012 Acura TSX costs $120 more per year than my Mustang.

A big part of what determines insurance rates is claim history. You are likely to get more inexperienced drivers in the V6 because its cheaper, and with them more claims. When I was shopping for a previous vehicle it was actually cheaper to insure a Mazdaspeed 3, than it was the regular 3, despite the Mazdaspeed being both more expensive and significantly more powerful.
The other thing to remember is that rates and even whether one car is more or less than another varies by location and insurance company and your history and even your credit score. So its possible for you to get responses that run the full range from the GT is cheaper to the GT is way more. There are far too many variables for you to get anything resembling a useful answer from this forum. The ONLY way to find out..... call your insurance company and get a quote. Or call several insurance companies.

rates vary from state to state and each person depending on their age, driving history, etc etc....
also how far you drive to work and total miles a year will determine the rate...
if you are male, in your 20's, dont expect a huge discount on a v8 or any car for that....your in prime age for insurance. your rates should decline as you get older if you have a good driving history.
i went from a v6 to v8 back in 2006 and my rates went up about $300/yr
gonna have to call and ask specifically....they can get you very close.

Look at teh web for 2 cars equipped the way you want. Get the Vins and call your insurance company. That is what I did I was really surprised by the rates.
Seems inn Florida that the Mustang has a passive alarm and that gets a big discount.
Who knew!!!

The amount of miles you drive will be even a bigger difference.
I am single, own my own home, and am retired.
I just received quotes from my present insurance company (State Farm)
V8 convertible 6-month premium was $10 more than the V6 convertible.
From Progressive: just $1 more per six months for the V8 than the v6 vert!
I am astonished...the V8 is a lot more expensive than the V6...guess they like my
driving record.

Just go around and get some quotes from insurance companies like any other person would do, your wasting your time hearing what others pay for insurance as it will not reflect what you will pay.
I'm 26 I pay about 870 for 6 months with GEICO, at 24 I payed 1500 per 6 months with Allstate, both cheapest I could get at each given moment , living in CT with perfect record.

This.
I went from a 2009 Ford Focus SE to a 2014 Ford Mustang V6.
Difference in insurance? $1.21 a month.
I asked my broker - reason ? She says its a bigger car, and it's technically safer if I get into a crash, has stability control, etc.
The hunk of metal surrounding the driver is worth approx. $23-$50 G depending on what you've got, but the liability of the human life is a lot more, so there's a bigger premium on safety.
I pay $119 a month for mine. Paid $89 a month for my Mazdaspeed3.
I made the mistake of calling my ins when I was backed into 3 weeks after owning this car. The rate went up after that even though I was not at fault and I didn't use their coverage.
I am 39 divorced, "male" with a clean driving record.
Thanks,
G
