I'm with you on that one...I want the performance package but automatic transmission is a must so my wife can drive it....when necessary.

I told my wife that if I got a 2015, it would be an automatic. And Competition Orange.

...I suck at keeping my word.

Do you intend to keep your 2005 Windveil Blue GT ? Hopefully you'll hold onto it as it's also going to become a timeless classic just as your 65 fastback is now.. Perhaps you'll be able to keep them both even after getting a 2016 Mustang and up

1. What is the expectation /anticipation that Ford will begin to change or tweak the design of the S550? 2005 - 2009 remained unchanged before they tweaked the 2010 - 2012, then again in 2013-2014, leading to the totally redesigned 2015.
I assume that Ford will follow the same formula as it has in the past, so you can expect that no body changes/tweaks will happen until the 2020 model year much in the same way as the re-fresh from 2009-10 took place during the S-197 production run.. But of course they'll be color changes long before the first re-fresh takes place too..

To address your question, all we can really go by at this point is just speculation.. So IMO, yes it will be another 5 years before any appearance changes are made, therefore I don't expect we'll see any sooner than that..

Yes ! I think you can at least expect to see some new color selections for the 2016 model year, just as Ford has in the recent past with it's S-197 models and then with the SN-95 models before that..

Rocky: Thanks for your insight on all of the above. Not sure if I'll be able to hang on to the 2005 Windveil Blue GT. As much as I'd like to, the biggest problem is that I don't have a place to keep her. I may move in a couple of years and plan to have more garage space in a less urban area, but I don't know what I'd do with the '05 in the meantime.

Inspired by your comments, I will think about it. Thanks again.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a 2006 GT which I really enjoy. I have had to fix many of the new model engineering problems such as the water leaks, corrosion aluminum hood fiasco, upper strut munt clunks, noisy instrument gauge stepper motors, and two piece Motorcraft break apart spark plugs. Many of these defects were fixed in later years all except the hood cancer which ran all the way into 2014. The new Mustang now has two aluminum front fenders and hood so we will see if Ford has corrected this serious defect. I have read that the current My Ford Touch set up is being replaced in the 2016 model with Sync Three. I just saw the new video of this system at the Chicago Auto show and it is worth the wait. I can only hope that Ford dumps the current "dolphin head" hood design in favor the GT350 hood to greatly improve the front styling. The GT350 will not be sold in Europe since the front hood does not meet the European pedestrian impact safety standards. One last thing, I just realized that the current 5.0 Mustang is the last Ford car being sold with a V-8 engine in the U.S.A.. Get them while you can!

Roger ! The current 5.0 Mustang will not be the last V-8 engine in the U.S.A, as the link I've provided below has already been confirmed by Ford..

I can certainly understand where your coming from, as I only have enough garage space for just one car and being that you live in an urban area, it appears that putting up a car port is more than likely not an option

So I suppose the only other option I can think of is.. Either find a family member or close friend who could possibly store your current 05 until your able to move and find more garage space, otherwise you may have no other choice but to part with it once you decide on getting your new 2016+ Mustang as it would be far better to find a new home for your current 05 rather than let it sit outdoors and be unprotected..

In the meantime, I really hope everything works out the best for you

...and you believe him?

I think that the V8 has a limited lifespan due to increased CAFE and also the "global warming CO2 emissions" stuff the gov likes to pour down our throats...

At some point I am sure that it will be the EB V6 and EB 4cyl... maybe even the EB 3cyl? (shudder)

I'm worried so I am planning for 2017 myself... would do sooner but the fully loaded GT vert that I want is FIFTY...GRAND... (thereabouts)... SIGH...

I agree the V8 isn't going to be around forever thanks to our govt's increasing CAFE regulations from global warming/CO2 emissions..
However I don't see it being phased out within just a couple of years from now either, as in 2017 being the final year in which the rumors have speculated will take place..

I look at it this way.. At some point, yes it's going to happen but once again I don't see the V8 being phased out in just 2-3 years from now..

And when that point does arrive, it won't be just Ford, but GM and Chrysler will also be required to follow suit in meeting the govt CAFE regulations as well..

I wouldn't worry too much about it right now, and if 2017 is truly going to be the last year for the V8 ? We're going to have an official word from Ford in either 2016 or during the early stages of the 2017 model year for sure at the very latest

I see all three companies holding on the the v8 as long as possible.

Seconded... no V8, no 'Stang! Might as well buy a Camry and be bored if they drop the V8...

I wouldn't mind another V8 but I'll be honest, I'd rather have the twin turbo V6 putting down about 450 horsepower. That would suit me just fine.

3-4 years before any major stuff is done. It will be small changes until then. Upping the horsepower a bit. tweaking body design. Offering the limited editions at about the mid-life mark to keep people excited, etc.

In short. it just came out. it's going to be a while before they make any major changes. They will listen to customers and do small things here and there. Maybe even offer a Mach I or Bullitt version at some point. But overall you've got at least until 2020 before it sees a major design change (like the 13's and 14's), and another 2-3 years after that before a ground up redesign.

You can also expect to see the 5.2 liter V8 become the standard V8 towards the end of the model run. guarantee it. But don't expect it to be cheap.

I think you can expect to see the 5.2 liter V8 become the standard long before the end of the S550 model run..

My guess is.. It'll become standard within the next 3-4 years from now
