How long before Ford tweaks the 2015 design?

I haven't been here in a while, still enjoying my 2005 Windveil Blue GT with ~ 51,500 miles (see photo) as I anticipate ordering a 2016 GT (this time I plan to adhere to my personal policy of not buying the first year of a major redesigned technological product, from cars to computers, etc.).

I searched for these subjects but came up empty. So, here goes...

1. What is the expectation /anticipation that Ford will begin to change or tweak the design of the S550? 2005 - 2009 remained unchanged before they tweaked the 2010 - 2012, then again in 2013-2014, leading to the totally redesigned 2015.

What have y'all heard, or what do you think? Will it be another 5 years before appearance changes are made, like back with the 2005-2009? Or should we expect sooner?

2. Also, is it anticipated that 2016 will bring a different color selection? I REALLY like my Windveil Blue. See recent photo attached. I'm struggling with the 2015 color palette.

Your comments are appreciated. Thanks.

My guess is that it's all dependent on sales. As with any first year model or first year major redesign there is always a lot of hype. The 2015 has been no different in that regard. Where it has differed is the number of posters I see that just aren't that impressed or enamored with the new design. Right now sales are good and so long as sales are good Ford will not be inclined to make any major changes to the look. If, however, sales start to see a noticeable drop Ford might be inclined to go ahead and change the look somewhat. The normal amount of time between a change in appearance has been about two to four years. We'll see.

Considering that the GT500 nose made it on to the 13/14 S197's, I suppose it's possible that the new GT350 nose might see duty on future non-GT350 S550's.

The 2013 tweak of the front was simple... they already had it designed, and it probably tested higher for them so they made the move to try to improve sales.

The rear end tweak was more significant, and I wish that my 2012 had that rear. I might not be getting rid of it, had it come with it. Yeah, I know I could change it, but I'm not gonna bother.

I would expect slight changes, in 2017 or 2018, but no significant redesign or platform change until the 2020's

You probably won't expect any significant design changes till 2019. You might get a bumper or light change before that like the 2013-2014. As far as color that can change year to year.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. What's really on my mind is, how many model years can we drive what looks like the new redesign? As you can see from my initial post, I usually keep a car that I really like for a long time, 10 years or more. Since I'm planning to jump in for the 2nd model year 2016, how long might it be before they tweak or change the look, especially to something I like even better. I know, that's always the risk so you have to jump in somewhere. I really liked the front of the 2012 and the rear of the 2013. It's never perfect, I suppose. But like the 2005, I'm happy with the look of the 2015 from all sides. I'm waiting for 2016 so they can work out most of the new design "bugs" and production kinks and hopefully avoid the several TSBs that I had to work through with the 2005. Thanks again. Keep the comments coming !!

That is a nice looking ride, kind of dig the Windveil Blue.

So much so I missed the neighbors Mustang in the background until I went back and looked at the pic again.

Thanks, Henry...~ 51,500 miles, 10 years old today in fact...took delivery on 2/21/2005.

BTW: That's not the neighbor's '65 fastback in the background...that's mine ...it's my "mid-life crisis" or "middle aged crazy". It is also depicted in my Avatar.

Good eye, thanks for noticing both of them. Here's a couple of "close ups" of "Rachel".

That's a beauty. Brings back memories of a green '66 GT used in 'Spenser for hire'

It's all a guess, really. I don't think Ford reacts to sales numbers that quickly. They probably already have the refresh style, and model year for it, planned. All you can look at is past behavior. Major redesigns go several years before a refresh. Subsequent refreshes are closer together. I don't think the overall numbers for the Mustang justify continuous changes. I would GUESS you're safe for 4 years.

Those are two fine ponies you have there

General consensus seems to be that we'll see a refresh for the '17/'18 model year. Looks-wise, I'd expect it to be similar to the '12-'13 refresh (lights/fascias etc)........possible we'll see a direct injected Coyote and the 10-speed auto, too.

For '16, I wouldn't expect more than a few new colors

I'd like to add maybe a new package or two.

I bet 5 years, 2020 is when they will most likely do a full body( except roof) rework, or they might just do the front and back if they really will try to push the current body lines further into future.

I really wish it was like back in the day, 1965 +, when you could cherry pick from the complete list of options, cafeteria style, and "custom design" your own Mustang. The current Packages drive me nuts as typically I like certain but not all things in a given package, or you cannot get a certain option outside of the package which is also tied to a certain trim line, etc.

Just give us the array and let us "package" what we want. Not fussing, just talking to y'all.

Think back to the S197...same exact body style from 2005-2009, maybe added a fake hood scoop for kicks; then a 2010-2011 change to the front & rear on the same basic body with an enhanced interior; then another change to the front & rear for 2012, then the Shelby nose & another rear end tweak for 2013-2014. I'm hoping they follow a similar timeline.

I understand that no one knows for sure....even Ford's current "drawing board" could itself be changed over time. Again, I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this. Much obliged.

Don't forget, the change from '09 to '10 wasn't just front and rear fascias.......everything bar the roof was changed.

It'd be nice to see new packages and maybe another SE. The Mach1 has been rumoured, so perhaps we'll see that for '17MY ahead of the first refresh? (rather like they did with the S197 Bullitt?)

Well, I did say "...same basic body...". Key word, "basic". Thanks for clarifying.

I'm hoping for the performance pack option with the automatic transmission. It has already been done on the 50th SE cars, I hope/think 2016 it will be an option and i'll place my order.
