Does the new Fusion give and indication of the 15 Mustang?
Hi all,
I saw some pics of the 2013 Fusion and the front of it seems very "Aston Martin-esque" in my opinion. I've read on here that the 15 Mustang will have European styling cues and wondered if the new Fusion, particularly the front end, might give us a little preview of the new Mustang.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Sorry for the typo in the title. Should say: Does the new Fusion give an indication of....

While it may not in look,
I'd probably be mindful of the partsbin and the overall execution of the exterior/interior pieces.
I love my 05 interior, but compared to even the 2010 restyle, its dated.
Now look at the massive jump to the 2013 Fusion, and imagine 2 years down the line.
You can see where they are aiming...now +1 to that by the time the Mustang debuts.

The first thing I thought with the Fusion was that if they were to make it a coupe with a different tail (and of course if it were rear wheel drive and had some performance), it could probably work as a Mustang. It definitely has the true fastback thing going on.
Some general indications, undoubtedly, in that Ford's Evos-themed Kinetic II design language will infuse most/all Ford products to some degree.
That said, I'd be careful about assuming specific elements would be ported over to the Mustang one-to-one -- Kinetic II/Evos themes yes, but massaged and interpreted appropriately for specific models. I think the Evos concept itself is almost a quasi-2015 Mustang design, what with being a two-door sport coupe. Stretch out the nose a bit more to make room for a longitudinal V8, along with a bit more aggressive intake, add a touch more hip and perhaps some C-Scoop/Scallop on the side and finish up with a tri-light rear end and voila, I'll bet we're pretty close to a 2015 Stang.
The interior will likely come in for far more of an updating as even an entry-level Fiesta's cockpit makes the Mustang's interior trimmings seem dated, drab and archaic.

I think the switchgear, such as the window/door buttons, headlamp controls, etc. will be identical across the lineup. I have to say, the new Explorer, Fusion controls are a much nicer set than the ones in the current Mustang. They seem to have bit more polish to them. As for exterior styling, I could see some basic body lines, but the grille and tails aren't going to translate over IMO. You might see a high belt line from the Evos/Fusion that translates across the lineup, but the front/rear treatments will be unique.
First things I saw in the new Fusion was that the nose looked a lot more like the 10-11 Taurus, and the rear looks more like every other Honda/Toyota/Hyundai out there. Looks like they might've done good on the interior... but I think they've lost any 'distinction' they might have had with the previous models.
