Beyond 2020: 2021 Mustang Will Ride On New CD6 Platform
2021 Ford Mustang (S650) Will Reportedly Ride On New CD6 Platform

Auto Evolution is basically telling us what we already knew here, CD6 or a variant of the same will underpin the next pony. This isn't really surprising since we already know the CD6 is loosely based upon the current Mustang platform at the very least. Interesting news here includes the reality that CD6 is obviously all-wheel-drive capable, just something to think about as 600+hp ponycars become increasingly more commonplace.
Where is Burningman when you need a good chop?!?!

I fully expected this when I saw the new Aviator concept and it was announced to be using a new RWD/AWD platform.
Ford wouldn't be spending all kinds of money on a new platform just for the Aviator.
it was obvious that it will go under the new Explorer and pretty obvious that the Mustang, being the only RWD car that remains after Ford's car-production halt, would also get the same platform.
Maybe modified a bit, but I also expect a future Mustang to offer AWD.
Ford's already announced a 2020-2021 hybrid Mustang is coming.
Offering AWD on the car will only increase appeal for buyers in the snow states.
