Ok, Mr. Math. If you want to play that game, you have a grammar error above

Still no proof of the $200 per car..........

Actually, wouldn't it be a grammatical error?

Clearly you don't know me much. Most of the members here could probably vouch for my varasity on this subject. I've gone on record a crap load of times with this exact sentiment.

I think the reason why the 2004 Cobra sold so poorly is because it seemed as if everyone was waiting for the 2005 car. I know I was one of them. Ford gave us an idea what the '05 was going to look like back in '03 and pretty much every car magazine had reports of how improved the 2005 model was going to be. You have to figure the idea of an all new non-fox based Mustang kept many people from buying the '04.

I remember my Ford dealer telling me that the SVT Mustang was to come out 6 months after the regular '05 Mustang and I was kept waiting until the '07 GT500 came out. ADMs of the GT500 is pretty much the reason why I went with my '03.

Now the Shelby on the other hand sold really well for the first couple years of production. I think a huge part of this was that many bought up these cars figuring that they would be collector cars. Most reports I first read said that the GT500 was to be a two year run. So I conclude that a huge part of the GT500's sales success was based on misleading buyers. Come to think of it didn't they do the same thing with the 03-04 Mach1 and 08-09 Bullitt?

With the current lineup I don't see the GT500 commanding ADMs so I personally think the Shelby name doesn't boost the MSRP that much. As long as Ford keeps pumping out GT500s any enthusiast who does his or her homework can get one for a good price. Though I prefer SVT Cobra I would not mind having a 2011 GT500 in my garage

I'm generalizing of course but I've seen them blow a gasket over crap like this on many occasions.
Theres only one probblem with your plan - dyed in the wool Shelby enthusiasts don't consider the current GT500 a true Shelby, ergo most would probably agree with your approach.

Now if you could score a KR or SS your plan would most likely work.

Anyways, I'm meh on it. Either one is fine by me, in the long run I can say I had something special and more importantly something stoopid fast.

My only question in the whole Shebly vs. Cobra debate is how much did Ford agree to pay for the "priviledge" of using the Shelby name?

I remeber when I picked up my 07 GT on 11/06 and talking to the sales guy about a Shelby, the smug bastage told me there was no way in hell (the condensed version of it) I would ever get a GT500 without paying an ADM. Heh, Camaro + Challenger + Crap Economy + Cash for Clunkers = No ADM - Now I wish I could say I got a frigg'n killer deal way below MSRP, but hell I've posted previously where local dealers are charging right around 40k for used GT500's

I have seen used 07 GT500s with under 10k on them sell for as low as $35,000. Since I recently bought a house I think I may have to wait a while before I get one of these. I guess I can settle for my '03 Cobra for now.

Fer'sure, personally I'd hold onto the termi and get a shelby stablemate down the road. Maybe the '11 GT500's will knock the price down a bit on the 07-10 cars???

A couple of problems here. Most obviously none of us has any solid information regarding what Ford might or might not save by dropping the Shelby name. Even more, there is absolutely nothing to support your theory that a strictly SVT badged car would sell as well outside of simple opinion. All of the hard data says the opposite....and Mulally likes hard data.

As for the idea that Coletti and Mulally would 'get along'.....not a chance unless Coletti changed his lone wolf ways. And the assumption that some good product would have saved him doesn't hold up either.
FOA just went through a management change despite building one of Mulally`s favorite Fords. Why? Ford didn't say, but the new management at FOA does a much better job of 'playing well with others'.

But, how can you justify throwing out a name with a whopping 10-years of history? A name responsible for a whopping two actually impressive vehicles. (three if you count Cobra Rs) It's a travesty I tell you!

The 03-04 Cobra with a wet noodle chassis sold pretty **** well WITHOUT the Shelby name. Ford is obviously paying Shelby to license his name, so there is some sort of savings to be had. No one posting on here knows how much though.

As for Coletti, we don't know how Mullaly would have reacted. I would guess that SVT had a really hard sell in getting the Raptor green lighted for production, so who knows??

Its all aout timeing, i worked at a ford dealership for a bit. Just get in good with them. Build a relationship with the salesmen, and more importantly the owner. For example we had a gt 500 that my dealership was holding on to and we were try to sell it for 150,000 or something crazy like that, when invoice was like 49,000 this guy came in and was talking to the owner, and told him if he could get ten people to buy from the dealership for this month and that he would refer everyone he knew to the dealership would they sell it for the 49,000 invoice price. By months end the guy had the car.

I thought the majority of the issues were due to Saleen's production processes, and they had to shift the production over to Roush to finish off the run CORRECTLY.

It landed up costing Ford more than it should have.
