Make it two of us! I agree 100%
Make that 3.

Problem solved. Car says SVT all over it. You now have your SVT Cobra.

Whiners.

You left out Step 1a, which includes paying unnecessarily for the Shelby name to adorn the car in the first place...

Excellent post! I will take the Shelby, without the stripes it just doesn't look right.

Only problem - you still get the "privilege" of paying for the "SHELBY" whether or not you decide to delete the badges and the extra cost of replacing them should you go that route. Talk about an unnecessary expense...

ummm... I don't think anybody even addressed to OP. I personally don't think they'll put the Shelby/SVT on hold for the redesign. If they keep the 5.0 in the next gen base and just alter the body I think there's no reason to put the top model on hold. If they are going with an all new power plant then it could be a possibility. If the base engine will stay a 5.0 but the Shelby/SVT engine will change I don't see why they won't start the development now so that it's ready by that time. If they are going to use the 5.0TT that's been rumored then it shouldn't take much time or money to develop that (compared to a whole to engine).

From what I remember I think the original 07 GT500 came out late due to unexpected development changes. IT was originally slated to come out 6 months after the rest of the '05 model lineup. Rumors I remember is that like the other '05 models it was originally planed to have an IRS.

max2000jp is right. The 05+ Mustang across the board was an improvement to the previous 04 model year. The V6 & GT saw increased sales just as much as the Cobra/Shelby did. The performance, S197 chassis, and styling was the big key.

What sales numbers are you referring to exactly? (For the sake of this post, I'm assuming we're talking in terms of Terminators vs the new Shelby's). Any discrepancies you see in sales numbers are going to be directly related to production numbers. 19,440 Terminators vs 22,431 '07-09 GT500's, with a minimum of 2k 2010 GT500's coming.* I don't buy into the whole Shelby name making the car a hit. Had production numbers been equal, I think any difference in sales numbers would've been negligible. There's always going to be a market for that level of performance above a GT, and that's why I think the GT500 would have sold just as well if it would've been branded as an SVT Cobra.

*Note: I used the intarwebs to pull the numbers quoted, so I can't gaurantee their accuracy.

I think the Shelby did help greedy salesmen get $20,000+ ADMs back when the GT500 first became available because many were ill informed. Many thought that the GT500 was to be a one or two year run but now the cat is out of the bag and we all know that the GT500 is here for a while and Ford will build as many as they can sell. I no longer follow the "limited volume" talk I've heard from SVT reps. Even super limited production GT500KRs are sitting in dealer showrooms with hefty rebates. I'm glad that the ADMs are pretty much finished I think we SVT fans can actually thank the Challenger and Camaro for that

Last time I visited Lucas Ford here in NJ, they had an '08 GT500KR in there on the floor for $110,000. Last I heard it was still sitting there. Dust collector anyone??

Why would people at the Shelby GT500 event be pissed off? If some idiot wants to buy a Shelby GT500 and relable it its his money. there are a lot of pepople with zero taste. Nothing anyone could do about that. Lets see how much money such an idiot would get when he tries to sell it.

Because the second you tell someone that is a died in the wool shelby nut that you defaced a shelby they get all cranky LOL
I'm generalizing of course but I've seen them blow a gasket over crap like this on many occasions.

Compared to something like the GT350, or other SAI packages, the SVT badges are rather tasteful. They've always been discreet. No "badgemania" that "screams look at me!" here.

You want discreet then buy a regular mustang and modify it to your taste.

only one way to settle this. Ford needs to sell a svt cobra and shelby. The sales figures at the end of the year will do the talking. I dont know why but I would drive the hell out of a svt and baby the shelby. I buy a mustang daily driver every year to have fun in.

Perhaps. Unfortunately I don't think the bean counters would ever allow such a thing. I also agree with the earlier post that credited the Camaro and Challenger for helping to do away with ADM. We really can think them for the 5.0 as well, lets be honest.

Actually Cobra outsold GT500.

Ford sold over 19,000 Cobras in 2003/2004.
I don't have GT500's number for 2009, but in 2008 they "were planing to sell about 10,000 of them". Mustang's sales were down by 27% in 2009, there is no way Shelby sold 10,000 GT500s that year.

I personally prefer Cobra. It was much less expensive and just as fast.
