2015 SHELBY/SVT

Do we expect ford to delay the introduction of the shebly or SVT model for the redesign a few years like they did in 05 or should we expect it right away. If i was ford I would drop it right away or only a few months after to capitalize on all the sales possible and create as much buzz as possible around the all new vehicle.
I would be interested in buying one to replace my 2010 but if i am still going to have to wait another few years after 2014 i might just step up in 2012?

Ford should just go back to calling SVT Cobra.

+1!!!!

Shelby adds nothing to the vehicle except licensing costs. Getting rid of Shelby would make the car cheaper.

Getting rid of Shelby would make the car non-existent. Without the Shelby name on the car, it's just another hopped up Mustang. In the current economy, it wouldn't be selling. Check the sales numbers for SVT Cobra vs Shelby GT500. Yes, Ford made the car and did all the engineering. The Shelby name made the car a sales hit.

You are partly right. One can say the Shelby name gave life meaning to some who otherwise would have drifted in obscurity eternally.

I can see a market for both cars. Either one is out of my price range.

The performance and retro styling made the car a clear hit. Shelby's name certainly did help, but not to the extent you are making it to be. Ford could sell a 2011 SVT Cobra very effectively.

For me personally, though I am probably the exception and not the norm, I'd most likely run out to buy an SVT Cobra where as I will pass on the Shelby.

Someday, 10 to 20 years hence, the SVT badge will create a calling all its own, just as the Shelby name does now. Hopefully Ford will safeguard their badge and not try to cash in at every single opportunity as this man has.

Make it two of us! I agree 100%

The name generates interest, especially among those old enough to remember when the 60's GT500 was brand new. Those folks have discretionary income that they would probably spend elsewhere if this car was called a SVT Cobra.

Now, call it a BOSS and you'll still get those buyers.

In the 60s Shelby's emphasis was on competitive performance as opposed to the present pimp my ride approach.

There were plenty of anxious SVT enthusiasts waiting for SVT's next product in 2006 who did not buy due to the dealers' additional prices, more than enough to offset those sales due to the name. In the end it would not have made any difference to Ford, would it have been a Cobra the sales would have been the same if not more.

SVT did all the development work, and will do so again. Thus, it deserves to be called a SVT Cobra.

Step 1: Buy stripe delete car

Step 2: Take 2 minutes and run fishing line under Shelby lettering, removing it.

Step 3: Replace Shelby piece on center console

Step 4: Replace Faux gas cap with one from GT

Problem solved. Car says SVT all over it. You now have your SVT Cobra.

Whiners.

The Shelby name plate does nothing for me, expect make me mad. Seriously, WTF has shelby done with Ford/Mustangs in the last 20 years? That old man isn't involved, he just cashes checks. No thanks. SVT all the way.

ttgt500 1/29/10 04:29 PM

If you get mad over something like that, I feel for you.

David Young 1/29/10 06:30 PM

I had great admiration for Shelby until he 'whored' his name on a turbo 4 cylinder Dodge years ago.

That's far too much trouble. Though it does sound like something I would do.
