I read somewhere that the detroit auto show will be where the 2015 F150 gets unveiled.

The article said ford wanted NOTHING to distract from that.

maybe im just not a truck guy but i dont see the appeal for them to reveal that at the NAIAS. One of thee largest autoshows, you would think they would use that for the new mustang. But i could be wrong. I hope I'm not.

I'm sure Ford will want to split the show debuts of the F150 and Mustang. I'm not a truck guys either but, in the big scheme of things, F150 is WAY more important than Mustang...........in terms of sales, so it will need its day in the limelight.

Mustang is the "halo" car, so it makes sense that neither takes the shine off the other at any auto show launch, in my opinion.

This is quite disappointing. Since next summer will be the 50th anniversary, the Mustang rallies across the country ought to be bigger than usual. It sure would have been nice if the 2015 were on display at them.

Eh? Who said it wouldn't be? There's nothing in that article to indicate that. I suspect it'll either be at Detroit in January or NY in April........which co-incides with the 50th Anniversary celebrations. I'd be very, VERY surprised if S550 isn't at the April events.

Message #1 says that production will start in July and the dealers won't have them until August or September. Yes, Ford may have a few prototypes to show at the major auto shows, but are they going to make enough to bring to the many Mustang rallies across the country? I was under the impression that the cars at rallies are brought by their actual owners or by companies selling aftermarket versions, like Saleen and Roush. If Ford has a factory presence and brings along some prototypes, that would be swell.

Ah, I see what you mean.

So, no, I don't expect to see owners with their new S550s.....but I do expect Ford to be present with production versions......even if it's just one at each location (Charlotte and Vegas for the MCA 50th shows)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get to see one at the Sturgis Mustang Rally, which is Labor Day weekend.

Won't they be out by then anyway? Or do you mean a different weekend than Labor Day?

Message #1 says the dealers should start getting them in August or September. So if they have them in August, then yes, some will be out on the street by Labor Day. If production hits a snag, though, there may not be any on the street by then. Remember the delays we had with the 2011 model year? Many Mustangs were built but weren't shipped out for 2 months, while Ford dealt with some problems. Heck, Ford's all-new Transit commercial van has been delayed an entire year, so a slip of one month on the 2015 Mustang is quite possible.

That makes 2014 Mustang production very long running from February 2013 through July 2014.

There are still some unknowns, such as the date the 2015 order banks open and when 2015 Job 1 is, but it's safe to say that 2015's won't start showing up on dealer lots until August 2014 at the very earliest or maybe even September if there are production or quality control issues at the onset of 2015 production.

For those who are expecting some sort of 50th anniversary model by April 17th, 2014, the production timing above tells me that a 50th anniversary model will more than likely have to be on the outgoing S197 platform (2014) instead of the all-new S550 platform (2015). Rumors persist that there will be a 2014-1/2 50th anniversary edition built in very limited numbers to finish off S197 production to keep sales strong right to the end of the current body style. Again, just a rumor about the anniversary car.
Hey Brian

Any update on this?

It appears that Brian has been right on the money all along.. As I have a friend who's both a sales rep and financial loan officer for my local Ford dealership here in Pittsburgh.

And his Ford rep just recently confirmed there will be a 50th anniversary 2014.5 Mustang coming out in April of 2014 in the current platform as the upcoming S550 15MY won't be in dealerships until July of 14 due to a 3 month delay..

So if this timeline is correct ? Chances are we won't see the introduction of the upcoming S550 until April 2014 at the New York International Auto Show !

Paul ! Do you think the upcoming 15MY will be introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in January, or not until April at the New York Show ?

Now that it appears more than likely that S550 production won't begin until at least by July of 2014.. It's seems very unlikely we won't see the introduction of the upcoming 15MY until the New York Auto Show in April

I wish I knew!

My theory? If the new F150 is launched at LA next month, then there's a good chance S550 could be at Detroit.

If F150 is shown at Detroit first then, yeah, I guess April in NY is a possibility.

I'm hoping more becomes clear once LA comes around
