2015 Mustang Will Not Have a CD Player
2015 Mustang Will Not Have a CD Player
It looks as if all new Ford models will not have CD Players:

I personally haven't used the CD players in my cars since I got my iPod, but there are a lot of people who like to play CDs in their cars. While this may work for Fiesta and Focus buyers, I'm not sure I see F-150, Mustang, and Taurus buyers warming to this idea. Ford may be making a mistake here, as options are always a good thing to give the customer. If customers don't have them, they may walk on down the road to another manufacturer.

Already being talked about here: https://themustangsource.com/f647/du...player-497980/
Next thing you know they delete the cassette and 8-track options!
Seriously though, I do think CDs have a lot of life left in them. Certainly there inherent sound quality is a LOT better than MP3s and the like, not to mention there still a LOT of them out there. I'd at least like the option for a while yet.

CD's are on their way out, by that time it will all CPU, downloaded onto little nano devices.. We just had seminar on this, CD DVD's are going by the way of vinyl...
Hey, I just bought my first vinyl last night.
Computers are now shipping without cd/DVD players/burners. It was only a matter of time until you would no longer see them in cars. Heck, I don't think I have used a cd since 2004. All music I purchase is digital. Since cd media just sits in a landfill and does not decompose I am glad to see that technology disappearing.
Wow! I remember when they put the record players in cars, then 8 tracks, the mini cassettes, and CD's. I haven't used my CD player in the Mustang, and neither has my wife in her Passat. She has the MP3 player factory wired in and I use the USB port. All of my CD's are on the memory stick, and then there is Pandora, etc. I also have Sirius in both cars simply because of where we live.
I still have all the records we collected and, a turn table. I am going to copy them all to my computer and then download them to the memory stick.
Gotta love technology. CD players are the 21st Century 8 track...

I've only had one CD in my 2011, and that was from a friend the day I got the car. Honestly, the lack of the 6-CD hasn't phased me one bit, and I'd venture to say that not having one at all wouldn't bother me either. With portable playback devices getting smaller, higher capacity, and cheaper, along with the increase in streaming media through smartphones, it's no surprise. Cut costs where you can and use it for other, more essential areas.
Trouble with all the more recent electronic music media is that the most important part, the actual sound quality, is actually quite a bit worse than CD-quality music. More convenient, flexible and voluminous to be sure, but worse actual sound quality. Kind of ironic then, to have some uber gizzion-speaker, mega-watt auto sound system then to be feeding it rather average quality actual music.
In terms of actual sound quality, the trend had been towards noticeably better technologies over time, from 8-track to cassette then to CDs on the physical format side and from AM to FM to Digital on the radio side.
