The base car will more than likely be the volume of the Mustangs sales, like it has for how long.

If they do slap the turbo4 in there, it won't be competing with the GT and its over 400hp
It did give the 5.0 a run for its money back in the day. The SVO today would be made by SVT, of course, and we know how good they are at squeezing every last ounce of performance they can out of a car. With the reduced weight, a turbo or two, and that mighty echo boost, it would be a force to be reckoned with. Definitely faster than the V6, and could begin to nip at the GT's ***** if it doesn't get a significant power boost.

Given time and space, SVT could become a brand as strong as M Group, AMG etc.

Boss should only ever (in my opinion) be applied to a track focused, 302 cubic inch car. They hit a bullseye with the '12 and '13.

Special Vehicle Team is simply to literal a weak to ever replace Shelby as a "brand" no matter how long and how often it gets used. Better the "team" create their own brand name to use on a car. SVO could be the limited designation for future cars such as the current Boss that the "team" produces indicating a "special vehicle option"? But frankly I thing the SVT guys should hire a branding firm full of car nuts (say, mine) to work on some branding with legs. The new ST designation is truly awful especial in a world car from a female perspective. GT should stay regardless as it is a historic designation with worldwide meeting got a Grand Tourer. SS for Super Sport is another great designation, one that GM practically owns. RT, well known as Road & Track, LE was limited edition but has been bastardized, so the opportunity to establish a great world wide Mustang or top Ford brand extension is now and is as important as getting the '15 car right.

So why not put a TTv6 Eco in there then, for the sake of arguement?
Look at the current trend..Ford is putting smaller Turbo'd 4s in to achieve the same power/less gas usage of the outgoing V6.
This leads me to believe its going to be entry level Mustang, which is not a bad thing. Its a GREAT THING! Power increase+more MPG = WIN.

SVT does some amazing work, but I wouldn't want to stretch them thin and put too much on their plate. Those guys are always hard at work creating the next big mustang and F150 etc...so I highly doubt they'd put their energies into a turbo 4banger vice a V8 in the Mustang. Another vehicle maybe....but not Mustang.

The Shelby has SVT on it... MULTIPLE times.
And it SELLS!
It would be an interesting 'what if' to see from 2007 forward, would the car have sold the same way had it been branded an SVT Cobra...or Shelby GT500.
Maybe..maybe not. Either way, the same shop did the work... so whether its branded one or the other... the Shelby name on a Mustang alone harkens back to the hayday of Mustangs 'gotta haves'.

Agree with it or not, it was Fords way of capitalizing on a brand/name/badge that has worked out VERY well for them, and strikes a chord with old and young. My 4 and 6 year old nephews have NO idea what a SVT Cobra is (they weren't around) but ask them what a Shelby is and with great enthusiasm they'll both answer "Fastest Mustangs EVER!!" it's hilarious. Non-car people know what Shelby is.
Ask my mom what an SVO is...she'd have no idea. Hell even a lot of my car enthusiast friends don't know.

When someone says SVO, almost no one thinks "oh yeah special vehicle operations," they think "Mustang Ess Vee Ohh" with the GT brakes and suspension and turbo 4. The name doesn't hold the same meaning now, as it did before. Don't believe me, then why is Ford marketing the Taurus as the "SHOW?!" I have no idea, because no self respecting Ford enthusiast EVER called it the SHOW back in the day. I really don't know where they came up with calling it "show."

In that vain, they might call the new base model the "Ussvohhh." :crap:
To each his own, but I guess I'll just have to respectfully agree to disagree.

I simply think "performance Taurus" when I think "SHO", nothing more or less. That would apply to the current Taurus SHO just as it would've 20+ years ago. I do agree that the current trend of actually pronouncing the "SHO" acronym as a word is ridiculous.

Regardless of what the public's perception may or may not be, I'd prefer any "revived" nomenclature Ford uses to make some sense, which SVO wouldn't in this day and age, even if some people supposedly think the term is inextricably tied to a blown 4-banger Mustang. People may feel that is the case but that doesn't mean they are correct in thinking so.

I see what you're saying. I partially agree. I was born in 1987, but when I hear SVO I think turbo 4 Mustang. When I hear SHO I think hopped up Taurus too (and my mind has erased the V8 auto only models from the late 90s - that poor engine!).

Engine Option...

The Nano...2.7L V6 ecoboost 320hp/375 ft/lbs is rumored to be in the next F-150. Nice torque #'s for a Mustang

Nano Nano

Mork approves

And so would I...........but, as much as I want to see both a 4 and 6 cylinder under the V8, will it happen?

I've mentioned before the threat of no official V8 if S550 comes to Europe, but a 2.7 would be a nice round number and would be seen as a more "premium" option than a 4-cylinder. An even better number would be 2.8 for those old fogies (like me!) who fondly remember their 2.8 Capris
