2015 Mustang - Media Reviews

I know a lot of people who own S197's, myself included. None of us are baby boomers nor do I know a lot of baby boomers or seen a lot of baby boomers driving this car. More often than not S197 owners are Gen Xers who grew up in the 80's and 90's, not the 50's and 60's.
It seems to me the S550 is being made for and targeted at self impressed, narcissistic millennials who by and large can't afford a new Mustang and even those that can will regard themselves as far too sophisticated for an American car an opt for some import heap instead.
So they kept the front suspension off the S197, slapped on a rear IRS suspension, play fake engine sounds over the stereo and suddenly its refined and balanced. Oh yes very BMWish complete with grey poupon. LMAO.

Ford engineers say they originally planned on keeping the old front suspension but ended up redesigning it. I suppose they're lying.

Apparently they found the old front suspension couldn't keep up with the performance and refinement of the new IRS they'd slapped on the S550, so they ended up slapping on a dual-link, virtual pivot point design. In the end, were stuck with a suspension that is quite refined.
The S550 is far more than an old S197 chassis with a bit of added gadgetry slapped on and the end result is a much higher level of sophistication and refinement to be able to compete with a much broader and discerning customer base than the old S197 ever aspired to do.
Whether its reached BMW-levels of refinement remains to be seen, but it certainly now appears to be a fully capable and credible competitor at a world class level.

So far, none of the reviews have inspired me to go out and buy a 2015 Mustang. However, I was impressed by the praise given to the Getrag 6speed manual transmission. I am now wanting to try out the improved Getrag 6speed trans. I was surprised the new Mustang interior did not get more praise. From all the pictures I have seen of the new Mustang interior, I would think a lot of comments would be made by those who reviewed the new Mustang. I like the look of the Mustang interior better than any car I have seen other than the Ford GT.

While the new interior might represent a huge improvement for current Mustang owners/fans, for a more general audience, it only brings it up to par for the course. It is very nice, to be sure, but not really remarkable or extraordinary in the current context as I think is reflected in the more general reviews.

GM and Dodge wouldn't even have those rides in their stable, if it weren't for the 2007-2014 GT500, especially the 13-14. Ford has "been there done that" with the baddest **** musclecar on the market. The others are playing catchup. Let them have their 15 seconds in the spotlight and worry about working the kinks out of the new platform for now. SVT will be back. We all know this.

Believe me, the S550 would not be nearly the car it is if it didn't have to be to fend off the C cars.

When has Ford (or any other manufacturer for that matter) released an entirely new platform/design/model with ALL variants, from base to top of the line, all in the same year?? Never. Ever.
#75
No they didn't, its a virtual pivot front suspension (as well as I can tell). A more sophisticated front strut arrangement compared to what you see on the out going S-197 and some of its competitors.

What's this talk of Camaro?!
That thing could have 2000 horsepower and pull 3G turns, and be 1/4 of the price of any other car on the market... But I wouldn't get one because every morning when I would go to unlock it, I'd pause and think "My car is ugly... **** ugly".
