Why not a Boss 351 ?
I’ll hold out for the 15’ MY when the Mustang has an option for an IR and a naturally aspirated 427 or 428. I'm a dreamer what can I say.
Boss 351? Sure why not?

It's been done, but not with a V8. I thought this would have been a wicked Mustang. It was a tire-roasting exercise by some engineers trying out the fabrication machines, but as far as I know this was a one-of build.
Too bad, this might have been worthy of the Boss 351 stickers.

I only learned of the Boss 429 watching Barrett Jackson. Only 300 made for the purpose of production status for stock car racing. But there was a prime example for auction which brought in an amazing price. To rich for me. Fun to watch though.

Don't rely on Barrett-Jackson for any real info. In 1969 859 Boss 429s were built including two Cougars. In 1970 only 500. The Boss 351 lacks "heritage" because Ford pulled out too soon from racing. The Cleveland blocks were used for Nascar just no factory backing. The Boss 351 is a beast on the street. Even with the size increase it was fastest in 1/4 mile testing. The 71-73 actually handle well for the size. I am biased since my Dad has always owned a 71-73 since the day I was born all with 351 Clevelands. His Boss 351 scared the hell out of me as a kid.
If the Boss 302 is still selling well near the end of year 2012, Ford might just be interested ti trying to get one more year out of the Boss Mustang by offering something new like a Boss 351. An enlarged Coyote engine would still be a mighty fast rever and probably quite lite.
In this economy, they are very super unlikely to make a Boss 351 and even more unlikely a Boss 429. They have only sold a little over 1500 out of 4000 Boss 302s since September 2010(This is a big factor). Not to mention government smog ratings getting more strict. But, with all that, I would love for Ford to make Boss 351 and Boss 429(my dream car)
come back to life! Ford would be the boldest, bravest auto maker yet!
I think going forward Ford will be looking at smaller displacement engines to meet emissions and fuel mileage. Expect to see more V6 and 4 cylinder turbos. After all the F150 V6 tt beats the Hemi V8 Dodge in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Even Chevy is going smaller displacement in the future. I think huge displacement will be a thing of the past.
