Kevin noticed this a few weeks ago, mentions a Mach 1...

I have no pricing yet but I have a part number.

Btw, when I was researching this I found a notation in the cataloging about a MACH 1 option. First time I have seen this mentioned.

Very interesting...Not a fan of the words "appearance group" though.:dunno:

Twin Turbo 1/26/12 01:17 AM

Good catch!

Hmmm, "appearance package" does seem a little disappointing but, lets face it, anything based on a 420bhp GT is going to be impressive out of the box. A little bit of Mach1 tinsel and I'm sure that would help the '14MY sales.

Sooooooo, c'mon Photoshoppers, get to it

I would. I would do whatever it took. I would need no convincing. I have a huge soft spot for a highland green Bullitt.

Now that there is a 5.8, they could do a boss 351.

Or how about a 429 C.I. that has EcoBoost. Nothing on the planet could touch it
except maybe a F-117.

That would be a Boss 355

BLAZN BOSS 1/29/12 09:34 AM

I'd like to see them do a Cobra Jet thats not just a drag race only car.........ZL-1 my a$$.

Overboost 1/29/12 09:36 AM

Go big or go home I say. And by big, I mean REAL big.:jester:

Twin Turbo 1/29/12 11:14 AM

And just how big is BIG? ;)

Wolfsburg 1/29/12 01:23 PM

That is one nice 4X4 Mustang. What county and state does that thing come from ?

Wolfsburg 2/2/12 09:09 PM

Haha, Hazzard County, GA for all I know.

+1 ..... Forget laguna seca if they get the weight more ballenced, put on a wide body with 335's out back and whippled a 5.8. Then porsche would be in the sites of that cobra jet!!

Wow guys I can't believe someone hasn't thought of this one yet. How about the 2014 SVO with an ecoboost! I know it's not as sexy as a Boss 351/429 or a new mach1 but it seems quite doable and can gauge where the market is for a small displacement mustang for the next generation. Who knows how accurate they are but rumors in all the car mags suggest that Ford is putting ecoboost 4 bangers in the Mustang next gen anyway why not put an ecoboost 4 or even the 6 in the SHO with a bump in power.

I think realistically in such a short time frame the Mach1 wouldn't be unique enough unless it's just a Boss badged differently. I like the bullitt but it loses some of its uniqueness if they make another one so quickly. I think an easy out would be yet another Boss 302 with 71 style graphics to keep it unique....

So in conclusion my realistic prediction is

2014 Boss 302 (new colors, graphics, minor upgrades)
2014 SVO (unique bodykit with an ecoboost 6 or 4 with class-leading MPGs and great skidpad numbers to appeal to import fans.

I'd be VERY surprised if Ford made any further significant engine changes (ie 4 cylinder Ecoboost) for the S197.

:)

Some reasonably plausible possibilities:

Bullett: Mix of GT (general suspension tuning) and Boss 302 bits (motor and brakes) in a very tasteful, understated Highland Green (and Black?) styling (think Steve McQueen in a black turtleneck and khakis).

Mach I: More likely: Boss 302 motor but with the rest of the chassis set up more for the boulevard/strip rather than back road/road course. Of course, all wrapped up enough bling, tack-ons and stickers to be suitably tawdry for Saturday night preening (Think Zoot suit).
Less likely: All of the above but with a naturally aspirated 5.8 out of the GT500 instead of the 5.0 to enhance low-end, off-the-line oomph even if top end power isn't much different.

Boss 351: Combine above Mach I 5.8 with Boss 302 chassis but somewhat more subdued graphics reflecting the '71 Boss 351. Would this co-exist with the Boss 302 or supplant it? I would suspect the former with the Boss 302 carrying on into the Nextstang line up. A Boss 351 would be a sort of big-block swan song.

Ford insiders have already suggested that both smaller displacement and ecoboost are real possibilities for the Mustang. I just wonder how hard it would be to put in a small displacement motor into the Mustang. I know something bigger would be an issue but would taking an ecoboost 4 or 6 be hard for Ford to put in the Mustang?

I'm talking about the S197 though (05-'14). The all-new car us very unlikely to use the S197 moniker.

I'm well aware new engines will make it into the '15MY, but I can't see Ford spending a lot of money putting a new engine into the current car :)
