Possible Cobra return?
Possible Cobra return?
I have been thinking awhile about this and thought I would share it with the rest of you.
In 2003 SVT did a 10th anniversary Cobra. Does anybody think that they could possibly have a 20th anniversary in the works?
The reason I have behind this is the following: I had read somewhere that Fords contract with Shelby ends in 2012, therefore there will be no GT500, or none that I could think.
All of this is just speculation because Ford is supposedly bringing back the Boss 302 in 2012. Could this new Boss be taking the place of the GT500 or do you think Ford would bring back the SVT Cobra?
Here's my wishful thinking for an SVT Cobra:
N/A 5.0 with forged internals
500hp/500tq if possible N/A if not slap an eaton on top
6spd manual and a good automatic option
Std. 3.73s
18 or 19in lightweight wheels
Unique front and rear facias
Rear with the name Cobra enbossed just like the terminator
Recaro racing seats
I.R.S. as an option (seeing alot of SRA swapped Cobras)
Brembos all around
Vented hood similar to the one on the Saleen S281
Boost gauge on the inside as well as an SVT shift light
Any other suggestions?
Granted I know some of these options are similar to what we might see on the Boss 302 but it would be cool to see the return of the SVT Cobra.

I think the Cobra may be a S/C'd option but the hp would have to be up there. The Boss will be left N/A no doubt but I hope that there is not a huge price difference between the two.
If they do make a Cobra though then they need to get rid of the sound deadening. The '11s are just way to quiet. I want this Cobra and the Boss to be more on the lines of how the 05-09 cars are in terms of interior noise.
The only problem I have with a 2013 SVT Cobra(possibility) is that the 50th anniversary car will be out a year later.
Boss might have 440-450hp
Cobra might have 490-500hp

I think if the Cobra replaces the GT500 it should equal if not surpass the power of the current 550HP GT500. I think a 600HP stock Cobra is a legit possibility. At the end of the day I consider the 07-11 GT500 next gen SVT Cobras. That being said the Cobra should still be top dog in the Mustang lineup with the Boss slotted in between the Cobra and GT like the Mach1 was in 2003-04.
I wonder if Ford has any thoughts of bringing the mach1 back? I think the Mach1 would have been a cooler SE than the 08-09 Bullitts.

It would be cool, although I think it'll be 2014 (and the all new next-gen car) before we see an SVT Cobra....and then I think it would be supercharged.
I agree with your thinking......with the GT500 possibly bowing out in 2012/13 and the Boss taking over as top dog for a while, before a Cobra comes back on the scene a year or two later
No point having a boost gauge if it's N/A

Alright so the car should have at least 550-600hp but we won't need that much if they can keep the weight within the current 5.0. So probably around 3600 lbs. What engine will they likly use?
Maybe he'd do a royalty thing like Warner Bros & Chad McQueen...
or a Lincoln Navigator and have a little change coming back to me.

The more I think about it, its seems like everyhting is perfectly set up for the return of the Cobra. 2013 would be the 20th anaversary and Shelby is done in 2012.

I agree. Cobra > Shelby
