This is in no way a response to it, was already well in development with set HP targets. Once again, GM will be chasing Ford.
I don't see why it doesn't make sense. The 5.4L in the GT500 is just a version of the Modular platform. I don't know exactly what block they're using, but it's likely a beefed up, updated version of the aluminum blocked 5.4L they've been using since 1999. It's new in the sense that it hadn't been used in the GT500 before, but it's NOT a new engine.

Also, Ford would have been proactive about engine development, and probably used the aluminum block 5.4L as a short term stop-gap between the old iron block and the new 5.8L block...it's about the same thing they did when they utilized the 4.6L in the 2010 GT, before they had the 5.0L ready for the 2011 GT.

I don't think that statement is an admission about which engine the new 5.8L will be based off of, rather, it's a statement that they're changing the engine for the vehicle. I haven't seen anything confirming the engine platform...

I'd be more interested in news about "traction" for the GT500. Power has never been the problem, trying to harness all that power has been.

I think its pretty certain the GT500 will have launch control since they put it in the Boss, even though consumers havn't been able to use it yet. But Hopefully they do more to the suspension to help put power down without the electonic aids as well.

I'll put this in easy terms:

5L................................................ ............5.4L.................................. ....................................5.8L

Admittedly, I don't own a GT500, nor have I driven one, but I'm sure they'll use launch control, some uprated suspension components, as well as better rubber. From what I've read, those Goodyear tires aren't very good, so hopefully they'll go with a good set of Nittos or something along that line, summer tires only. I can't imagine them putting a crappy set of tires on a car that will cost close to $55k.

Thats been an issue plauging gt500's for the longest time. Putting power to the ground. If they get some solid tires on there and better suspension bits to put all that power down, the supercar pantheon might be unsettled by what this baby can do

Yay!!!! R-compound tires for everybody so not only will you spend 3k on a clutch very 6-20k but you can add in another 2k -3k for tires every 6k ---> **** thats alot of k's

Anyways, how are the 2010+ clutches in the GT500 holding up? In my AO I'm something of an anomoly having got right around 18k on my factory clutch (admittedly it was slipping at 16k but I rode it out another 2k).

I've got a McLeod now, but in retrospect, I really do like the original factory unit.

Chevy just released ring times for the ZL1....and they are very impressive to say the least...I hope ford has taken note, because its competing with the likes of the Z06, ford GT's and GT3's

GT500 better bring it's A game

7:41 around the ring is VERY respectable, respect to the the ZL1 team for finally dialing in that independant suspension
