Stereo Illumination Issue

Anyone have a problem with their stereo illumination going out? I was driving to work this AM and all of a sudden my radio illumination went out. Cannot see any of the display in the center for the radio, temperature, etc.

I checked the fuse for the illumination and it is fine. Pulled the car into the garage and the lights all work for the radio and heater buttons as well as the switch for the light dimmer.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks
Joe

Do the components actually function? like can you turn on the stereo and AC? or is it strictly a lights problem...

It may be the connector that runs into the center console is off...? If you want to look at yourself, check out this video as to how to go about it. It starts around 1:35 mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-cu5efYlUw
If it's the screen itself, that will probably a bit more tricky to look at...

Otherwise, obviously your best bet is to bring it into the dealer.

Yes everything works fine. The radio plays and the AC and other things work fine.

I will check out the connector and the video thanks.

I did call my dealer today and explained the issue. They asked how many miles on it and I said 17K+ so they said they would order a new radio so we'll see! If so kudos to them for no hassle!

Since those still function properly, I wouldn't even bother opening it up, cuz that power source is not only for the lighting but workability of all the components.

Your dealer sounds reputable! So it might be worth it to not even bother, knowing a new part can be had.

BTW: Good to see you're driving it too- I just passed the 15k club myself

Had the same issue with our 07 Milan the first year we bought it. Everything worked but you could not see the display. Dealer replaced the radio.

Had the same thing happen on my 98 Explorer.
If they will replace the radio then let them.

Took the car to the dealer and it was a bad module. Part # 10D885 incase anyone else has this issue. If anyone needs it I can scan the repair sheet. Part was on back order so if you have this issue it took about a week to get the part.
