My #8 failured on my stock 5.0
There are a few aftermarket tuners who HAVE stated that the #8 issue is in the factory tune. From what I understand is that it starts to run lean after long periods of WOT (example -- WOT pulls in 5th & 6th) and the only thing that basically saves the motor is the cat over temp sensors that add fuel and richen up the AFR and cools down #8 a bit.
DONT BASH ME FOR ANYTHING I JUST SAID, THIS IS WHAT I HAVE READ!!!!!

First off, sorry to hear your 5.0 let go! Nothings worse then a practically brand new stock engine blowing.
Cylinder #8 issue- I don't think you can definitely say it's the tune causing it to blow. It can most certainly contribute to the cause, but there's several things that can happen, poor octane, oil/coolant temperatures, driving style etc. All of these symptoms can cause the weakest link in an engine to let go.
Either way, we can safely tune your new 5.0 and offer you a cylinder #8 warranty! I think you'll be really happy with the tune results with, throttle response, hp/tq gains, and possibly a mpg or two increase.
Let me know if you have anymore questions!

The aftermarket tunes are octane specific.

That info is all correct. Although, sometimes filling up at non-name brand gas stations gets you "left over" gas. Having strange amounts of ethanol or just overall quality, additives and what not, isn't uncommon for a small no-name gas station. Like I said, I don't think it's just one thing. If you got a significant amount of bad gas, had high oil temps, and the stock tune runs the car a little lean, all of those working together will make an engine fail.
In my personal experience, I just try to take certain scenarios out of the equation. Thus, I try and fill up on 93 all the time at Sunoco, Exxon, Shell, etc, keep an eye on temp sensors, take in mind how often and how long I was accelerating heavily etc. I've always had "good luck" this way and realistically is the best way to take care of your car.
Regardless, there's an odd issue with the #8 cylinders and going to extremes can only help prevent problems. Sometimes they happen regardless. This is why it's great to get a Bama tune with a cylinder #8 warranty!
Hope this helps!

I spoke with a couple of SVT guys at a local show the other day. I asked him where the ****** are in the 5.0 coyote. He said for all the thrashing they've put it through the only thing that comes up from time to time is the #8 jug running lean and sometimes burning a piston or exhaust valve. It was his opinion that this was most likely a situation that would only arise when driven extremely hard. In my opinion, if it runs lean when driven hard, it likely runs lean most of, if not all the time. I'm not going to get into it any further than that.
Definitely make sure any tuning keeps enough fuel in there and doesn't go crazy with spark.
