Jiffy lube is the worst. Not only do they use air guns on the drain plug but that 55 gallon drum of mobil 1 synthetic you think your getting your cars engine filled with is filled with junk bulk oil and the filters they use they pay $1 for. If the junk oil filter explodes while your driving, you wouldn't know it till the light came on. by then its too late. You think jiffy lube is going to buy you a new engine? At least the dealer uses quality oil and filters, just check the level and for leaks before you leave. Its very difficult to fine good mechanics these days. Just going to mechanic school doesn't make you a mechanic.

 

Every mobil 1 fill up I've ever gotten at a oil change place has come from the bottles, and not a 55gal drum.

 

Most oils can be bought in bulk format, nothing wrong with that. It's more cost effective for them and less waste.

I will do the oil changes myself on mine when I get it, I do like the paper trail idea.

Anyway, yeah I buy the oil and keep all the reciepts in a folder.

 

I've had two oil changes in the Mustang so far, and both have been at the dealer I bought it from. This is the first time in my 10 years of driving that I've taken a car to the dealer for oil changes.

I highly suggest everyone who takes it to someone else drive it home, and do a simple check yourself. Check the dipstick and oil cap, and give it a quick inspection under the car. If you've got the means and extra time, put it on a set of ramps and pull the splash guard down to check the oil filter and drain plug. That extra 5-10 minutes you spend is peace of mind and will show you immediately if you're going to a decent dealer.

 

Most name brand filters are good. The FL500-S Motorcraft filter is a good filter. I use on;ly ford genuine parts in my mustang. they just work better. you myst make sure that the filter you use has a Silicone bypass valve in it. Thats what the "S" is for in the FL500 "S". The use of synthetic oils requires a silicone valve. Thats why I use ford parts. Most likely purilator makes filters for motorcraft but does the purilator filter have a silicone valve in it? You dont know.

 

The last thing I would do is take the Mustang to the dealer for an oil change for a couple lack reasons;

Cost, and lack of oil choices other than the Ford brand. I'd also be concerned if some kid is doing the oil change or an actual mechanic. I take the mustang four times a year to LubeX to have the oil, and filter changed. They also change out the fuel filter every spring.

Never had a problem with their service. Other than the manager at Lubex none of the staff are mechanics but they do know how to change oil and can read oil specifications.

 

i didn't get a free oil change today with my car purchase...eww...because ford reimburse them for it anymore...no free car wash either!
