changing out leaking clutch master cylinder?

Think mine is leaking, it looks wet but towel does not absorb any of it. I let it sit over night and gave it hell this morning by pressing the clutch in as if I was bleeding it. There is a plastic clip that goves inside the body, I guess it kinda of acts as snap ring, just made of plastic. I notice yesterday while taking out the assist spring on the clutch pedal it was slightly wet. I though I had accidently pulled the clutch pedal out to far. But I unhooked it before I moved the clutch pedal. Do you have to take the whole pedal assembly down to change out the slave?
Here is a picture of the clip.
