3.7 Engine Failure

Here is the latest on the engine failure. After getting the heads removed they found that one of the cylinders was overheating, #3. It seems that there is a engineering design issue with the pistons as Ford has issued a design change for them. Ford warranty decided that the tech should replace the block and the one bad piston and reassemble the engine. What the hell? At least that's what I said. Patch her up and let her fly. Really? So the parts department takes a look at the availability for the parts, and they find a block, but the pistons are on back order most likely for 60 days. So Ford authorizes a new short block and reuse the heads. By this time I have conceded the fact that my new car is not going to get a new engine. I ask them to extend the warranty for 60000 just for the engine since I disagree with an engine being able to be build to the same standards as one from the assembly line, in a repair shop environment. Nothing against the techs, I know they will do the best they can with what they have. They tell me NO!
I am sorry, I do not think that is too much to ask. What do you all think?

honestly, I would just be happy they repaired it.. With some of the horror stories we hear about dealers not backing what they sell.. I think your car will be fine after they rebuild it. I would do over it with a fine toothed comb after to be sure everything is okay..
The reason I would like the warranty extended is that it already has 47K and its just a little over a year old and since I didn't have an issue until now I would only have 13K on this new short block and that may not be enough miles considering what happened to the last one. This is not an unreasonable request.

Warranty does not guarantee a brand new anything, they warrant replace or repair at their option. And my goodness, you already have 47k on it.
fordjimt, I was lurking, and checked this thread as I have the 3.7L in a '11 F150. I hope the dealer fixes your ride to your liking.
BTW, Deysha is something great here. I have never seen anyone so in touch with owners on any other forum. Maybe we can extract a little DNA, and get us one for the F150 forum.

OK. I don't think cars are to be placed on in the garage and just rubbed on and looked at. They are made to be driven. Isn't that what they are made for anyway, and when I drive I like to drive nice cars, like the Mustang.
In regards to me being happy with just a new block or just a repair in general, I am sorry I expect more than that when it comes to customer service. If I had abused my car in some way or modified it and that contributed to the issue then that may be ok. None of the miles I put on my car have been hard, they have all been on the freeway. 47000 miles for cars of today when properly maintained is just a drop in the bucket. I am glad Ford is fixing it with the short block instead of just patching it with replacement parts. How would you want your car fixed?

Dont get mad at the interwebz man. Of course I'd want my car fixed but wouldnt expect them to do backflips for me when Ive put on like 3x the average driver. Just sayin Id be happy with a new block. Ford rocks.
My 07 has fewer miles! You must be averaging an oil change ever 2-3 months, no? And dont get me wrong. I hope they give you a '15 GT & a stripper. I just wouldnt count on it. Good luck, though. Sounds like theyre taking care of you.
I am not mad at anyone. Keep in mind the number of miles per year does not matter. The problem would have still happened. The piston design has a flaw and that is why they had a re-engineered design.
I agree with you...however, with that said, check with Ford, I believe the replacement parts all come with a separate warranty, from your original factory warranty. Ford techs, please correct me if I am wrong.
