He said the block is still good no damage other then the ring and piston. I can replace the #8 piston/rods and sell it I guess.

I got a really good deal on this Boss 302 block. Fully forged... It's definitely an upgrade. Good for about 800WHP.

I wasn't sure what the condition of the Coyote block was before I bought the Roadrunner block. I just knew # 8 was damaged.

How am I suppose to break it in?

 

ahh ok, go light on it for first 1000 miles and dont use a brenspeed tune Steeda - Bama atw..

Ok I just got this message from Ron @ Blue Collar Performance just 2 minutes ago after I asked you.

So, no Brenspeed or Livernois tunes...got it.

 

This coming from Gus over at Steeda, they haven't had one single #8 failure with people running their different octane tunes. Which is reassuring to say the least.
Couldn't be happier with my Steeda 93 tune.

 

What can we do to check to see if we have a good tune or a tune that will fry number 8? i'm very happy with the gus steeda 93 tune i have, but i want to monitor it and make sure its not slowly melting #8 piston rings.

i have the sct, and i know how to log it. i also have the torque program and the kiwi bluetooth obd2 android gages..

OP, good luck it could happen to any of us, you have my sympathy and if you need anything researched PM me.. ps. i'm also in detroit area so that may help in the future. oh yea i pretty much dont drive in the city anymore with no spares and the sketchy west side its not worth it like it used to be back in the 90's when you could race heads up @ 3AM with no worries, now its all car jackings, robbery, etc. Detroit has a lot of good but its way to violent.

 

I have a Brenspeed tune and I'm good with it. Since I live overseas the last thing I want to happen is I lose #8. It would be difficult and expensive to get it repaired. I've already decided at my next oil change to switch to 5W30. My question is should I switch to another tune company?

 

I don't have a tune and never will but based on word of mouth via internet forums I think the consensus is yes -- there are much "safer" tunes to be run.

 

If I remember right, "Innovate" has an A/F guage for the dash. You have to have a couple of O2 sensers installed, but then you can watch and make sure your tune is keeping A/F ratio within proper (safe) range throughout the RPM band.

I don't think advancing the timing was as dangerous as running too lean on the faulty tunes.

Of course you should. Get rid of that tune. 4 blown with their tune that we know of and zero revisions made. They'll tell you to kick rocks they won't help you. Unless you have 8k to spend get another tune. I'm running a Steeda tune now.
