2011 5.0 GT/CS Hood Cracking, flaking, bubbling

Hello!

I wanted to reachout on this mustang source forum and post some pictures in the hopes some ford reps can help me out.

Since 2013, I've had paint cracking on my hood I know it's not scratches because the paint is coming upwards in various streak and all different directions. I've been to multiple ford dealerships and they all mention this isn't covered, which really sucks...

Recently, my roomie backed into my car (whole nother story... ugh!) and I brought my vehicle to a GMC bodyshop and I wanted to pick their brains about the hood (which I've done in every dealership/mechanic I've been too.

They checked out the underside of the front and mentioned I should try for the warranty hood replacement because the paint in the front is flaking off, bubbling and warped in some areas and it's likely attributed to aluminum corrosion.

Take a look below. The hood paint cracking pictures are from a couple years ago, it's gotten worse since and I'll try to add more pictures this weekend if necessary (got a nice coat of fresh pollen at the moment). The bubbling is persistent on the top side of the hood along the front edge.

Take a look at the pics below, any help would be appreciated as I don't have much luck with the dealership.

Thanks in advance!

I would try to contact deysha our local angel from Ford Customer Service. She can help try to get things sorted out for you. Ive heard of paint issues but nothing this severe. If it truly isnt covered by warranty (which i think is a load of bull tbh) then i would honestly look into gettin a new hood. Possibly fiberglass and some hood pins to go with it. Yea it would take alot of scratch but it would be worth it compared to having your hood repainted and then have to do it again some time down the road if the problem arises again

My dealership took care of my hood with far less of a corrosion issue than this. The hap hazard sort of "all over the map " service that people get on this issue is completely unacceptable.

I’m happy to get this reviewed for you, thesongster. Please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number. I’ll get the customer service manager for your area involved.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I've reached out to Deysha.

For those interested in how bad it might get... take a look at the paint cracking taken this morning, some additional ones since 2013.

The ones here look pretty similar.

Below you see two cracks that converge to a point.

Below is the bubbling along the front of my hood. You can clearly see some brown rust spots starting up.

Wow. This is the worst looking one I've seen yet - have to think this will be covered.

Well, today I got a call from the regional customer service rep and basically got a giant middle finger from them. They said unless they see holes through the aluminum hood they're not going to do jack about it and basically it sucks to be me...

Thank you Deysha for initiating this call at least. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know asap!

Not sure what year car you have but am guessing it's '11 or '12 based on the parts of the car I could see. If it's a '12 are you sure you're completely out of the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty (3 years/36K)?

It's ridiculous they won't help with a hood in as bad of shape as that one is. And it's unfortunate you didn't take this up the food chain two years ago when you took some of those pictures, as you were well within the warranty range then.

At this point, my suggestion would be going back to the dealer you purchased it from and trying to talk reasonably with them. They can't possibly think that's acceptable paint, unlike some of us who have tried to get hoods repaired with slight bubbling on the underside. If they decide to go to bat for you, Ford will have to take a second look at it, I would think.

Good luck.
