Using Shaker 500 door panels?
Using Shaker 500 door panels?
I got some Shaker 500 door panels I want to use with my base radio car. The door panels came with speakers and the wire that runs from the speaker to a hook up on the door near the mirror and my car has the wire near the mirror for the speaker to hook up. It does not have the amp in the drivers side lick panel and I can't see any loose connection up under the dash near where the door sub amp would be.
Anyways has anybody done this? Is there a way of doing this with factory stuff? Like if I bought a used Shaker door amp. Must be plenty of those floating around. I am not looking for earth shaking sound just a little more bass than the Boston Acoustic 5x7 put out.

I'm in the same situation as you: I have the base 4 speaker system. I replaced the door speakers with Polk dxi 5x7 which helped tremendously. For bass I got a MTX thunderform sub. I fits on the side of the trunk and doesn't take up much space at all. Here's a pic (not my car):

I'm in the middle of installing it so don't know how it sounds yet.

Thanks but that doesn't help me. I have had trunk mounted subwoofers in other cars but I just want a bit more bass not a subwoofer. My trunk area is completely sealed off from the passenger compartment with a permanent aluminum bulk head and Dynomat on both the inside and outside and carpet on the inside. I would not hear a sub in the trunk and if I did it would be horribly muffled.

There are four wires mounted to the surface of the inside of the door with a plug that matches the the plug on the subwoofer from the door panel. The colors of the wires correlate with the colors shown in the schematic for the door mounted subwoofer system. The wires travel through the door jam and are in the big bundle that heads off down the rocker panel. Since the door sub amp was mounted under the dash you would think they would end under the dash but I can't find an end point and I really don't want to strip back the cover of the entire wiring harness. Any ideas?
