Some people just don't know the difference between good quality and great quality. Loud is loud. Not better. So comparing people that upgrade their sound system to young kids who want loud music is pretty ignorant.

Well i listen to it quietly but even when turned up about 40% its really clear but too loud. Bass is so much too which is fine by me.
I only listen to classic rock and hip hop and its great. Not as good as my yamaha system at home but its **** good for me not to ever upgrade it.

I think it matters what your goals are and your point of reference for what good sound is. When I started working in a mid level audio store, I thought a boom box and a 3000 dollar system sounded the same. After an education, I learned that even high end systems work better for different uses and different types of music.

I think the disagreement here is based on usage and musical taste. In as much as any mod has a place it works and a place it doesn't.

No denying the mud. But I found that setting the balance choices to 'rear' and tweaking the B & T settings reduces it somewhat depending on the CD. And I do compress the signal.
Its acceptable to me but once you crank a tube amp to cut through the mix, all mp3's sound like crap. I don't play music all the time though when I drive. IMO

A standard 5x7 will fit with these spacers.

I'm not sure which warranty you're talking about.

I'm old too . I can't hear highs very well. I replaced the door and rear deck with Pioneer speakers which cleared up the muddy sound from the factory shaker 500 speakers. I blew my passenger side door Pioneer speaker and will replace both door speakers with some JBL's after Christmas.

I think the jbl would be a good choice for you. I found out during some audio sales training when I was a youngster that my sensitivity to highs was very low. I like speakers that most folks would think are too bright. That said, I like the jbl speakers.

Didn't like my speakers so I put in the Roush ABs and decided I'd rather listen to that everyday instead

Just replaced my door speakers in my '13 premium with 6" components. The factory shaker system is decent, but the sound is still muddy. Sounds much more clear now, and I can actually hear the highs.
