Kenwood DNN - Traffic

Kenwood DNN - Traffic
For those that have installed a Kenwood navigation receiver (i.e. DNN991HD or similar), does the unit include the ability to display traffic when in the Garmin/Navigation mode?
I have downloaded the navigation manual for the DNN991HD - at the wording is a bit ambiguous.
I have an external Garmin nuvi in my DD that has a traffic receiver built into the power cord to the cigarette lighter. It came with Lifetime traffic. And in Houston - I use it a lot!
The Kenwood Navigation manual seems to indicate that the DNN991HD comes with a built in traffic receiver, and then you can also subscribe to INRIX traffic (although it does mention something about having to be connected...not sure if that is thru the GPS antenna or by tethering thru a smartphone). I believe the first two years are free and then there is an annual fee for INRIX. But, just regular "Garmin traffic" is fine with me.
Would like to understand how these units handle traffic before taking the plunge on an item at this price point. I prefer the idea of "built-in" and "lifetime", and not a subscription model to have this unit display traffic conditions.
THIA to anyone that has one and can clarify.
