That sounds great. Let me know how it turns out. Are you also amplifying the other speakers so that the base doesn't overwhelm everything.

What kind of music do you prefer????

My memory stick has a little of everything but I prefer rock. Disturbed; Godsmack; Ozzy; nine inch nails; monster magnet; etc.

I'm putting a set of the Pioneers in the front so maybe moving the OEM fronts to back would give me more highs and mids back there.

but those focal- i dont think youll get alot of bass out of them- most of the other 5x7's were going down to 48 and the focal is 60. Yes you might not need 48 but if the speaker is rated for that itll sound better overall.

the tweeters all sound different- you have to hear them to see the difference. Some sound very tinny some sound hollow some sound crisp etc-

Alot of people really like the pioneer - i prefer polk and jl audio alot.

Speakers will sound different to each person- go in a studio and listen to them all before making your decision.
I went with the Focal 165 CVX coaxial 6.5 speakers front and back, and a Focal solid 4 100x4w amp to push them. Focal provided a bracket to fit the 6.5's in the factory mounting area, they are a little bigger, but fit like a glove. Before the speakers 'broke' in they did sound very high, but after a week or so they filled in nicely. The mid bass they produce is extremely accurate. I left the factory 8s in the doors, and filled them with some cotton. I didnt notice much of a difference with the fill, but the sound deadener in the doors did make a noticeable difference.

Some have said to replace the fronts and forget about the rear speakers. After having all speakers installed in my vehicle I have to say that the sound produced fills the entire cabin and can be compared to wearing headphones, instead of listening to the stock speakers on the 'drivers seat' setting. That may be because of the quality of these speakers, but definitely look into replacing all four for a FULL sound.

The other day I was listening to some Metallica and couldn't pick up the double bass petal very well, so im going to take it another step and purchase a sub for the trunk. Definitely going to stick with Focal, run one of their 13's and build a box for it.

I have also heard the the factory HU is filtering the sound going to the rear speakers so you are not getting the full range in the rear speakers anyway.

Replacing rear speakers would make more sense when installing with an Aftermarket HU.
The factory HU is undoubtedly full range and plays all frequencies.

I may still in the future swap the stock amp for the upgraded Shelby one. I am also considering going with the 8" woofers for the door, and a single 10" in a fitted box for the trunk as well. Right now though, the upgrade to the otherwise cheesy 6x8s was a welcome addition to the car.

I installed the Pioneers in the doors. Piece of cake. Then I decided to install the OEM fronts in the rear. What a pain. Ford made the clips really cheesy on the side panels. I broke one on each side and mangled the remaining one. I also broke the rear clip off each door sill since it appered once they went in at the factory they were almost impossible to get out. Every went back together OK. The rear seats hold the side panels tight and the door sills seem fine with the one missing clip.

The rear does sound better but definitely lost the bass back there since the front speakers don't really have a woofer. The JL Audio sub going in the trunk this weekend will make up for it.

I just installed Polk Audio MM571 speakers. The sound went from absolutely horrible stock to amazing. I am very pleased with this mod. The photos and video from the start of this thread helped make it easy.

I hate to admit this, but I used Gorilla tape. That stuff is very strong.

You dont have to have an amp. But it helps. I would use an amp just to give the rear speakers a little more volume so you can balance the sound better. Also most amplifiers have a built in crossover that will allow you to remove some or all of the bass from those. Or just tune it to produce the highs and mid bass and let the sub if you have one get you the low bass. Thats what i did and it truly fills the cabin with sound better.

I mounted the pioneers in the front last night and it sounds 300% better now.

now I want to upgrade the rears, but am looking for something a little better then the pioneers.

would it be a good idea to mix the pioneers and the polks with the polks in the back?

Just ordered a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch P1572 5" x 7" for the rear and a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 6" x 8". Hope to have time to install them this weekend and give some feedback

Radio delete. You don't need no stinking music in an LS.

To be honest I wish that and AC delete would've been an option. I listened to the radio for less than five minutes.

To be honest I was amazed it wasn't. I thought for sure they'd build a successor to the R in the true fashion of the R. While the LS will hand a stock R it's *** on the track, it's not all business with a radio and ac. I thought Ford caved and made the car too cushy.

I put new front speakers in and removed and blocked off the rear speaker holes. I bought the Boston's with the neodymium magnet because I wanted to keep the weight to a minimum. I never played the rears loud enough to hear so removing them saved a bit more weight.
