Help: 2010+ Premium Package Owners (MyColor)

So... I've done a Google search for 2010 BASE GT conversion to a MyColor cluster... and all I've found were unfinished threads or the 05-09 conversion.

Anyway, my problem/question is... I have a 2010 Base GT and I want to purchase a MyColor cluster. Most of you will know the difference in the message center (buttons by headlamp control/MCB) versus the little stick on the tachometer side. That is my problem...

I'm wondering if there is a separate harness that plugs from the MCB directly to the back of the cluster, or if the MCB plug is integrated into the main harness that controls the dimmer and headlamps...

If it isn't too cold and one of you would be awesome enough to take a few pics of your MyColor cluster and the back of the Message Center buttons, I'd greatly appreciate it. Or if you can truthfully tell me if there is a separate or integrated harness! :beerchug2:

This picture shows what my plug looks like; notice the "dummy slot" with no attached harness...

It's a maze of wires that I didn't take a close look at quite yet. (Well, I searched for the missing harness, but there's nothing there).

Thanks!

Btw, I do know about the mileage staying w/ the cluster as-is and the PATS reprogramming...

You might want to contact member dmhines. He recently swapped out the gauge cluster in his 2010.

I just recently replaced my standard cluster with a mycolor 6 gauge cluster on my 2010 mustang..it was just plug and play but now i'm in the same boat as you..everything functions well but i am unable to access the message center that show miles to e..changing the color, oil life, etc..now i'm just wondering will the upgraded headlight switch be a plug and play as well? let me know if you find any more info on this

I went from a Premium GT cluster to a GT500 cluster ... so I already had MyColor.

Here is the back of my switch with the control buttons ... there are 3 wiring harnesses.

Ignore the electrical tape .. I had tried to attach my boost/IAT gauge illumination to one of the wires to get my gauges to dim and it didn't work.

It didn't work because "in the old days" dashboard lightbulbs were dimmed by increasing the circuit resistance decreasing the voltage to normal incandescent bulbs. You cannot dim LEDs by the same method, they are dimmed by pulse width modulation (ie "percentage of ON-time") which will have no effect on dimming and at best make them "flicker".

Be careful of doing this in the future, the extra load on the PWM circuitry can burn it out.

Did you order those harnesses separately? or were they already installed in your car?

Edit: Does the button harness connect directly to the cluster?

My car is a premium. What you see is how it came from the factory.

Oh; that's right, forgot you went to the GT500 cluster...

Is there a way you can go back out to the car and see where the wire going from the bottom 3 buttons go? If it goes to the cluster, it'll be easy to do... if it goes to the main harness, I figure it's a no go...

Thx!

There is a single connector on the back of the cluster. All buttons are merely transmitting on the canbus so no direct connection is needed.

Ok... So that means it'll require an entire new... "premium" IC harness to make myColor function... :[

There goes my upgrade...

Thanks for the info!
