Can you paint the sirius/xm receiver your cars color?
Can't find talk of this on the forum, but can you paint the sirius/xm receiver the color of your car without degrading the reception? Also, how is the receiver on the trunk attached i.e. screwed on, glued, .. and, can you have a receiver in a different location? I currently have mine on the corner of my dash with the wires hidden on my other two cars.
I don't know if you can paint them directly, but you may want to contact a company like Visual Garage, who sells the antenna covers. I seem to remember them coming out with a "wart cover" for a car a while ago.
you should be fine painting it. I did it to the antenna of one of my cars. if its an overly metallic paint, then you might have some problems (but i don't think Race Red has metallic flakes in it). the cover sI have seen for them are hideous IMHO because they make it look like one of those BMW antenna wing thingies.

Or, you could relocate it entirely to the inside, back of the package tray, and fill the hole in like Ford shoulda done in the first place.
/as bones said, "Just sayin'."
//I still cannot believe Ford did that, and continues to do it.
///As much went into the car's engineering, THIS is the best they could do?!

Here's a picture of before/after... not sure how I feel on it...

It's the same reason the basic radio antenna continues to remain on the outside and not placed internally (even though it's possible to make it work as we've seen).
I think it also comes down to "If it ain't broke, we ain't gonna fix it."
I installed an XM receiver on my last Stang and I had the antenna inside the car next to the windshield. I was constantly losing the signal every time i went under a tree. With this car I never lose the signal, it's awesome! The wart on the trunk doesn't bug me a bit. It was a good move by Ford IMO.
Reason Ford does it is because the "optimal" place to place that antenna is in an uncovered/open area that has little chance of being covered or disturbed and can best receive the signal.

How many times is the center of the package tray covered up? But better still, how hard would it have been to put it in the roof just ahead of the back glass like, oh, JUST about everyone else? With a nice little sharkfin type cover or something?
No, you guys get a nice little drab blackish plastic elongated hockey puck smack dab in the center of the trunk. Stylin'.
I stand by my suggestion, and my complaint. Not that it matters, I have a 2006, so I'm just an irritant, I suppose.
Based on what? Because you said so?

You have remember "least common denominator" here. You have to put it where only very heavy amounts of interference will impact the signal or you'll have to deal with customer complaints.
But the point is it still can be. People can throw clothing and other objects back there, if their window gets too dirty, or you add louvers, it could block the signal. Where as on the outside, it can't be covered up so simply.
Sure, if you modify the car to cover it up, that's possible... but then ford isn't obligated to make it work for you then. Putting it there has the least percentage of getting it covered aside from directly on the roof.
Now that, I would wager, is straight up design choice. Why this instead of anything else? No clue. Could've been a any number of reasons. Even something as simple "didn't want it to look like everyone else." Who knows.
But either way, from the factory is has to just work otherwise it creates problems as people start complaining about nonfunctional features.
I don't like it either, which is why I never got Sirius in my car. Nor do I want it as I don't find the entire thing to be worth the money

Well, considering that would work for the coupe, it wouldn't work for the glass roof or vert. That means more tooling, more development, and testing to make it right. I'll pass.
I COMPLETELY forgot about the convertible and glass roof. Houtex, there's your answer on why it's not on the roof.
Two different designs or the one design used on several different cars?

Ooh, color me slapped in the face. Crow is gamey, btw.
Hm. Well, those 'verts get the hockey pucks. Coupes shouldn't have to kow-tow to the 'vert for that though. There's enough differences that they can afford it for the vert in $.
However... I'm gonna say that we sort of agree on it, and disagree in some places, and it's all good, vive la difference!
