Bigger (auto) brake pedal quest
Hi all
As a new owner of a 2011 V6 automatic, I'm pleased as anything with my new Mustang, with 1 exception.
My wife and I are 2 totally different sizes. I'm 6'2" and she's 5'0. I have of course big feet, and hers are a size 6. She is having trouble pushing down the brake pedal without lifting her foot off the floor.
She had this problem years ago when we bought a big Ford Aerostar van. My solution was to buy one of those sporty pedal covers meant for a truck that clipped over the existing brake pedal. It was just big enough to let her brake properly. I bought it from Canadian Tire, and now it seems they don't carry that sort of stuff anymore.
The nearest I could find to the one I had with that old van was this:
But I think the big pedal might interfere with the accelerator.
And, anyway, I'm not sure it would help as the Mustang pedal appears fairly high off the ground in comparison. I don't really need the pedal to be wider horizontally, or thicker like a pedal extender - I need the greater area to be vertical - where she can reach the pedal and keep her heel on the ground.
Anybody come across this situation and found a solution? I'll be looking at parts places and see if they have some larger pedals - perhaps those made for an F150 or ???
Thanks

Maybe mount it vertical instead of horizontal? Just make sure it doesn't get caught on the carpet or shin panel. That could lead to serious problem when driving. May also have to drill and bolt it to secure it firmly on the thin pedal.

Good thought, VIP1. I'll crawl under the dash this weekend and see what I come up with. I have a welder friend and maybe he can retrofit something we find from the junkyard, too. Wonder if a classic 60's pedal with "Disc Brakes" on it will retrofit...
And, El Coyote GT/CS, PMSL! Can't wait to show her... just be thankful you haven't given your complete address in here - or she would hunt you down!
But you may be onto something. Sexy boots are a bit larger than "sensible" shoes aren't they...

How about going a different route and instead of modifying the pedal, getting something to put under the carpet that will lift the floor closer to the pedal?!?! That way it could be removed when your drive the car??

awoychosky123- I need to get out more -- didn't know they had boots with "holsters" in them. I'll explore that avenue, too..but that's for an entirely different forum!
Houtex - She has the family wagon - the Ford Freestar, which she will drive most of the time. If the Mustang could tow a 2000lb tent trailer, I'd be all for the his n' hers solution!
I will explore the floor-instead-of-pedal mod further MADSCOTSMAN...thanks! Good idea.
