Base radio satellite capable ???
Base radio satellite capable ???
Have noticed that on the window sticker on base cars that it says the radio is satellite capable, has anyone looked into what it takes to get the satellite radio enabled?
I'm very curious to find out, as well. My car came with the Sirius card, but when I called to activate it, the guy told me (going by my VIN) that my car is not eligible for Sirius. He advised me I would need to buy a supplemental radio and have it installed.
If the stock radio can just be changed somehow to allow it..I'd do it in a second!

Found this kit, http://www.tss-radio.com/products/is...kit-for-sirius that is supposed to upgrade the radio and use the factory buttons and display for the satellite.
I'd like to find out if there is a Ford factory kit.
I'd also like to have a SYNC upgrade but the only one I have found so far is for '09 cars.

I believe it is... Not sure if you'll need a SYNC unit, but I think in the passenger trunk compartment, there is a hook up near the antenna thing.... Or maybe it's just my car.
Have a 2012 V6 on order (should be at dealer this week hopefully). I went with a base build, I notice on another that I test drove that the Sirius button is there but when you hit it it says no satellite radio.
I asked the dealer what's needed to upgrade and they are looking into it. Does anyone know what it takes to add Sirius? If its more than a couple hundred I'll just use the external box and the aux port but built in would be a cleaner setup.
I have to say it pisses me off they don't just put it in by default or as a up front option for $200 or something, other Ford cars at the same price point have it, yet to get it in they want you to spend $4000 (Canadian) on stickers and badges / aka the premium build, then another $1700 for sync, sirius and some cute lighting.

Just a follow up - got the iSimple unit installed today and it works well - everything is on the stock controls, text shows up etc. Controls are a bit different from factory but works well. Rotate the tuning **** to go up and down channels, presets work normally, press menu to search categories etc. Only issue so far is I can only switch the top line between channel / artist / song title but the bottom one stays on the category. Will contact PAC directly, but if that can't be changed it doesn't bother me much anyways.
Hi Alex, just replied to your PM, but in case anyone else runs into the same issue make sure you have the separate PGHFD1A cable installed for the LCD screen (the kit from PAC comes with it), and they may need to play with the jumpers a bit.
I haven't used it with an iPhone, I only had the satellite radio module installed and retained the factory aux input.

I've been getting some issues. The LCD screen flashes on and off. Audio shop thinks it's just a defective unit getting a new one put in tomorrow. Will report back.

I have a base 2013 Mustang. I bought the Sirius satellite kit to add satellite to the factory radio.... worked easy the plugged right in. In fact, I am selling mine because I bought a Pioneer aftermarket radio. I'll sell it for $125...
Worked great. Just email me at andy@frascone.com

Guys, don't bother. Seriously. 100 channels and I can't find a **** thing worth listening to. Not to mention everything sounds like crap because they don't bother streaming quality audio.
I will not be renewing in April. I'd rather save the $4/month.

Also, pretty sure it's more than $4 a month these days - even with the discounted rate they'll sometimes give to bring you back. I just checked prices since the free time runs out in two weeks and it was just over 160 a year for just the music - travellink and traffic put it up over 200 so I just decided to stream music from my phone instead.
I have stations I love on Sirius, but I only paid $35 for six months plus I got a free radio when I renewed. You just have to keep telling them you're going to cancel and that you saw a deal in your email and they'll work with you.
