Tint
Tint
Hey tms, I recently got my car tinted ( first car I've tinted) and there's is some very small imperfections in the driver and passenger side window. Of course the windows I'm always looking at. So I brought the car back to the tinter and he told me he would redo it but there's always a chance it could come out worse since he's not in a vacuum sealed bag, and he mentioned tint was ment to look through, not at. To try and find every small mark becuase it acts as a magnifier for dust. Yes I did a lot of research for a reputable place but I'm curious what kind if experiences other people have had with tint. Am I being to hard or should it be flawless?
Don't expect total flawless but only a few very tiny imperfections. Sadly I've had my driver door redone twice and they did worse this last time than before. I only went back to have it redone because there were about 15 tiny air bubbles all grouped together in a 2 inch section. Now I have the same amount of air (silver) bubbles spaced all over. At some point I will have redone by someone else. Never had more than 3-4 little imperfections on any car before.

Since he didn't think he was capable of doing a better job, I ended up contacting 3M. 3M said the guy needed some additional training, but they would make sure he would replace the tint on the back window. Because of the 3M and dealership conversations I have had, neither of us want to work together. I asked for a full refund, he offered about 25%.
Now I am waiting to hear back from the 3M rep. to see if they will cover the replacement as a warranty problem using another installer.
Good luck, hopefully the installer will stand behind his work better than the guy I used.

He replaced the passenger window without question, but said I was being nitpicky about the other things. And even if he redid the rear window, he couldn't guarantee it would look any better. I watched him replace the passenger window tint and was very disappointed with the way he 'cared' for my car.

I haven't had my windows tinted yet, but you can believe I'll be getting every bit of my money back if I'm not satisfied.
My car has very minor pieces of lint trapped in the rear glass, other than that its perfect. All of the tint jobs I've had, had very minor things wrong, mainly lint or dust particles under the tint. If it were bubbles, I would freak out on the tint guy. The particles trapped under the tint do look like tiny bubbles though. If its more than one or two noticeable places, I make them re-do that window. You gotta be up front with the tint guy about your expectations.

Wow. Did he actually phrase it like that?
He phrased it just like that. I wasn't happy about it either. I never thought about calling the company that warranties their product as above poster did. Thanks for that, did they get u a better tinter in the area?

Are the imperfections air bubbles/adhesion issues, or where they didn't cut the tint properly?
If it's air bubbles, I would give it some time -- when the tint is first applied, there will be some air bubbles in it for 1-2 weeks afterwards. It took my car about 10 days for the tint to "settle" or "adhere" fully or whatever you want to call it, but those air bubbles will get worked out. If it's still not right, you can go back and get it fixed. Most tint places offer a lifetime warranty if they're legitimate.

There are some tiny air bubbles but as u said I think they are starting to work out. But the stuff I was mainly worried about was a few dust particles throught the window. Yeah it is lifetime warranted. He never sounds happy about redoing it and tells me it could be much worse next time. But I guess he will do it till its right
For some reason it's been telling me file failed while trying to load from my phone recently. Ill have to look into it. Check it out on page 168 of 10-14 latest pics thread. It shows how dark it can be in some situations and also with light coming through one side how light it can look
