Switching the rear valance
Switching the rear valance
I know some of you have done it, but the posts are few and far in between...
How hard was the install? Any pictures along the way?
Advice?
Anyone go Roush as opposed to GT500 valance?
And now even the 2011 v6's can chose to swap as well...
Thanks!

dmhines did it. He said all you need is a screwdriver IIRC
It's pretty simple ... I didn't take pictures:
1) Remove 3 screws inside each wheel well.
2) Remove all the plastic rivets attaching valance underneath car (6 I think)
3) Open Trunk and remove the inner rear panel to expose wiring harness for directionals and license plate light
4) Disconnect the harness and push rubber grommet through the body
5) Begin pulling the rear bumper cover and it will start POPPING off the body - have a large blanket on ground to lay it on so you don't scratch the paint
6) The Valance is held to the bumper cover with screws + plastic rivets + slotted tabs
7) Remove lower valance ... it will be obvious how to do it .. although a bit tricky.
Reverse procedures to put it back together.
I installed the GT500 rear valance .. know also known as the 2011 GT/CS rear valance .. which works out good since I'll be ordering the GT/CS front end parts once they become available!

Here's the link for the Roush instructions, which work for the GT500, Steeda, etc.
http://store.roushperformance.com/im...009_manual.pdf
Their site says 3 hours and intermediate tools, but I'm sure it's less.

From the pics I've seen, it looks like a 3DCarbon product. I do like the styling, but the price might be the reason I skip it. I'm all about style, but I'm not about to pay $3-400 for something because it's mildly different. The GT500 valence can be had for $130, and that's a great deal IMO.

I was looking at the Steeda front bumper from the Q350 and they've said it will be $649-699. I can buy the CS front splitter and brake cooling kit for that much, and not have to worry about paint either. I'll reserve final judgment til all the facts are out, but from what I've seen, it might be a costly upgrade if you go that route for front/rear fascias.

Says on the Ford ***. site you also need a GT adapter for the grill Is this just the grill surround that I assume one could re-use? --No part # listed for it.

Yeah, I know we've talked about it before, but I'm not keen on spending close to a grand for a bumper. Especially when there's a cheaper solution for about half the price. I do like the Steeda design, but the Ford accessory pieces are looking more and more appealing as more things come out.
Just for reference, one of the few websites I even see the GT500 rear valance listed is on Stangmods. For 169.95
But use "stangmods" as a coupon code and you'll save $8.50 for $161.45. Not too bad...
