Stripes - That's the fact Jack!

I thought I wanted some white Le Mans over the whole shebang, but now I'm 50/50 - and its dropping as time goes on. I wanted to ask you guys and gals what you think.

About how long does vinyl last and would it create slight discrepancies in color when removed? Any other pros or cons? I detail weekly and wax every 2-4 weeks.

I think it would be a real great contrast having the white on blue, but when she shines right , I just love that Kona Blue eye candy all over her body and I sure do love the "as delivered" look.

Thanks,

I've never been one for stripes unless they are painted on, but everyone has their opinion. There would be a noticeable slight color fade over time, which is another reason I prefer painted stripes.

Yeah, that would kinda defeat the notion that I could go back to "normal" one day. Painting is out of the question.

Thanks

Longevity for vinyl can vary depending on your climate and care. My car sat for a year on the lot before I bought it and the stripes were faded on the hood, roof, and trunk. Figure it sat in the sun and through a whole winter outside, and you know the dealership just hoses them down once a week. I'm on my 2nd set now and the car's a year and a half old almost. Take care of them and you should get a few good years out of them at least. I haven't waxed mine, but I used a sealant (Wet Diamond) on them once then just spray detailer in between washes and they're fine. Some claim waxing them helps preserve them, I haven't had them that long since replaced to really tell. I say go for it. The great thing about vinyl is, if you don't like them, just take them off.

The Mustang is one of the few cars in the world that can rock stripes. Go for it.

I will eventually put stripes on mine too. When they wear out, I'll replace them. Of course the paint underneath will be in better condition than the rest of the car, but that's why you replace the stripes. If you're one of those people who like to go back and forth or change their mind a lot about how you want your car to look, skip the stripes altogether.

I've considered about 6 different kinds of stripes or graphics for mine... Still haven't gotten any yet.

I love the over the top stripes. I couldn't do it with this car because they would look foolish with the glass roof.

I'd say go for it Only use a premium vinyl (2 mil). As for fading I wouldn't worry about it too much. Premium vinyl will have at a minimum 7 year warranty against fading. I use to work at a sign shop and never had an issue, especially with white. As for discolouration when you remove the stripes you have to look at it this way. The paint under the stripes will be in the same condition as the day you installed the stripes because the vinyl protected the paint. The reason people complain that they can see where the vinyl was after it was removed is because the rest of the paint is oxidized, scratched, etc. You just properly polish the panel and you are all set.

I am really looking hard at striping my black 5.0. I am leaning towards having them painted on. Not sure I want the hassle of changing them out every few years or so. My only problem is i am not sure what color. I am thinking ghost stripes. Maybe a dark grey or lighter black than the car. What do you guys think?

I had mine painted on both my 2005 GT and my 66 fastback. PAINT is the way to go. Look around, talk with hot rodders. You will find someone who will do an amazing job for a reasonable price..
