Spray tinted some pieces on my 2014 Black GT:

So over the weekend I finally got to work on getting the pieces tinted that I have been waiting to do. The rain finally stopped here in Charleston so after work on Friday I started taking pieces off and getting to work on them. Tinted the front and rear markers as well as the reflectors in the lower valance. I am very satisfied with how it all turned out.
Here are the after pics:

Thank you. I used VHT Nite Shades, Krylon clear and 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper.

I wanna do this to my sterling grey MCA 'Stang. Is it better to use the spray or the actual film?

No clue to be honest. I went this route because it wasn't that expensive and was a nice weekend project for me to work on. Guess it would depend on what your concerns would be for either. (i.e.) Tint: if it gets damaged you replace it. Spray: if it gets damaged you sand it down and re-paint it. Or (i.e.) Tint: ease of applying. Purchase a film kit from store and custom cut pieces then apply. Spray: You wet sand several times, each coat takes time to dry, there's more sanding and then buffing. (I know you can skip some of these steps but I wanted mine to look like they were glass)

Thank you very much. I could not put any Krypton on my car as it was reportedly destroyed back in 1938. All joking aside and references to Superman.... I put down 4 or 5 coats of clear since I was planning on wet sanding them smooth after the clear and buffing them with some M205.

I personally would never do a film. I hate stick on stuff like that, and at shows I will actually kneel down to look at how lights are tinted and see the stick on crap look and lose all respect, personally.

No problem. You remove them from the car so you can work on them.

They are very easy to remove. Some have been able to just pop the rears out. I could not on mine. I removed a couple of the fender screws in the rear wheel well that allowed me access to get my hand back there and release the wiring harness from the back of the light and keeping my hand on the light so not to drop it, pop it out from behind.

The fronts I did the same. I turned the wheels all the way to the left to get to the left wheel well fender screws and removed them along with the one at the bottom allowing me to snake my arm up behind the inner fender cover and get to the 10mm nuts that hold the fronts on with a 10mm socket and removed them by hand. Then turned the wheels all the way to the right to do the right side. Hope that helps anyone that is looking to do the same.

I watched these two videos on how to paint them before doing mine.

It helped me a great deal as well as I was able to attempt with much more confidence. Enjoy and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

This is the very first mod I did to my car when I got it. Stupid safety rules. What do those safety commission guys know anyway? Looks great and really makes the car look more sinister.
