Well here's the background. I have a GTCS and wanted the GT500 spoiler so I traded trunks for a black GT trunk. Now the trunk I got had a few bad scratches and one really bad gash so I decided I'm going to have the whole thing repainted.

Now my GTCS had matte black vinyl overlay on the decklid. I really liked the look but since it's at the body shop I told them to paint it matte black.
I didn't get a quote for the matte but the trunk will be about 300 then paint matte over it on the lid.

Opinions? Have them paint it matte or get a black out panel or buy the ford accessories replacement GTCS vinyl that I had ($65) or just aftermarket vinyl. Basically paint vs vinyl?

What do you Guys think?

Personally I would go vinyl....it's cheaper, and can always be reversed.....

Agreed the vinyl is a great option and far cheaper.

Well I just called the shop and told them to just paint the whole trunk lid black and forget the matte black. God knows how much that would've cost anyway. But I'm glad I had them paint the whole trunk over cause of the gash it had. He said he'd tried to fix but I'd still notice it.

True story - On my old '06 Mustang, I masked off the area between the taillights and just grabbed some automotive quality duplicolor flat black. Put on a lot of coats though. close to 8 or 10. It was perfect, and held up like the rest of the paint. In the time we had it, the paint was perfect, and this was a daily driven car that faced all elements.

the gash is that bad? why can't they fix it before painting?

P.S. smart move to just paint it all gloss.

Yeah I will get some matte or CF 3M wrap but I think it's gonna be a pain to do it like stock. From the factory its goes a little higher then the curve on the top side. I may have a problem getting it straight, we will see.

Also they didn't paint the gurney flap flat black! I may wrap that too. CF sounds cool
