Powder coating exhaust tips?

Has anyone powder coating their exhaust tips? I want to get all if the chrome off my car, and I was thinking about this. Do you think the color will hold up? Will I have to cut off the tips to do this? Also, one tip hangs lower. Is there a quick fix to this without bending the hanger?

Haven't done it but I'm planning on it eventually. It will hold up. The tips don't get enough to bake it off.

what Al said I don't think there's any packing inside these mufflers so I would just have the whole thing powder coated.

Undecided. Haven't seen many black tips at all. Will never hurt to go gloss.

PlastiDip them!!! I did a test run on my Roush tips that do get pretty hot. I romped on the car for a while to get them real hot. Had it on for weeks, no change in looks or melting. Your good to go.

Plus with the amount of black carbon that comes out of our cars it's worth it for ease of cleaning or not cleaning lol.

I hope everyone's car has a lot like mine anyway. Usually a day after cleaning they're all black on the lower half

You'll have to etch the chrome with acid or the powder coat won't stick. I'm not a fan of plasti dip, it looks like truck bed liner spray or body undercoating.

If done right it looks very nice and smooth, nothing like the rough, lumpy look of bed liner

I had mine done on my charger and they end up looking "dull" anyway, I plan on doing a satin/semi not a full gloss on the 5.0.

You can adjust the tip pretty easily by loosening the joint at the axle back connection then hold tip where you want it while you tighten the joint. I used some spacers between the tip and the lower facia to help keep the tip where I wanted it while tightening.

I think powder coated tips would look awesome

Well that is plasti dip on his rims. If you do the prep work right and take your time with the coats it can come out looking very nice. If not, then yea it ends up lookin like bed liner

The biggest thing is keeping a good distance from the surface you're spraying. I found that 6"-8" from the surface works great. And keep a consistent speed going across.

This is all plasti-dip....

I think another thing is to get the coats on thick enough, if you go light with the coats it gets a rough look.
Take a piece if cardboard and practice, it shouldn't take long to get it down right

I did like 3 light coats, the first being super light. Then by the 4th and 5th I was getting so impatient I started really laying it on. Then when I took the tape off it peeled up in a few spots on the edges of the faux cap. I had it taped off right under the badge. I've seen people make a square around it??? Then I guess razor blade the edges? Help!!!

No...when you peel with the square, it does a clean line when it hits the separate surface of the cap. It's really cool watching.
The biggest thing is patience with this stuff. The thing I keep telling myself when I'm spraying, is "THIS IS SOO MUCH CHEAPER THAN DOING ANYTHING ELSE, MAJE IT COUNT!"
Practice, and it'll come out perfect every time. I'd it doesn't, figure out what you did wrong, peel up the mess, and spray again.
