NC Legal License Plate Covers
NC Legal License Plate Covers
In case you're not aware, the State of North Carolina does not allow license plate covers (frames) that cover up any of the text or stickers on a license plate.
Does anyone know of a source to purchase covers (Mustang related, preferably) that are NC legal?

I live in Texas and got pulled over for the same thing. I just asked if there was a real reason for pulling me over or was he just wasting my time. I was a Federal Agent for some time and don't recommend anybody else doing the same, just saying it's a stupid reason to pull somebody over.
Was you pulled over for it? Was you ticketed or given a written warning? If you do get pulled over for it take it to court, no way they will waste the time. If they do show up say that you took the frame off and your plate fell off on the highway and you had to spend 45 minutes looking for it and almost got hit several times.

In my opinion, it's a law to give law enforcement the ability to pull over people who they believe to be "suspicious."
Anyway,
I believe that's a law in most, if not all 50 states. Think about what you said. A frame that covers the lettering on a plate. A lot of frames I see cover the state, and you wouldn't be able to tell what state its from. Just get a plate frame that doesn't cover the lettering and you will be good, there's not gonna be any "NC legal" plate frames
Obviously didn't do too much street time I guess.

If you're pulled over for that nonsense, 1) the officer is just using it as PC looking for bigger "stuff". 2) the officer has no clue about real law enforcement and doesn't know better. That officer pulls you over for driving 8 MPH over the speed limit, hair line cracks in your windshield etc.
It may be petty but if you are driving with a partially obstructed license plate who knows what that person may be up to or trying to hide. It's always worth investigating, especially in this day and age. For example the Oklahoma City bomber, was caught when he was stopped for a license plate infraction by an Oklahoma State Trooper.
All I'm saying is look at it from a law enforcement perspective. And before someone says it, no, im not saying you could be a terrorist in a loud Mustang lol.

It's not worth going through the effort. It's a chicken **** ticket that no cop is going to write. Now they could use it as an excuse to pull you, but most won't waist the time on a nice car like yours.
This came after a long legal battle decades ago.
I remember it well. After the decision, I used to see quite few covered up when I was driving around. Almost never happens now.

In our state, you are allowed to cover up the state motto.

Lol at the last 2 posts. The state motto is also not a real identifying part of the plate, that was settles years back as you can see. We were talking more or less the state itself and the identifying numbers.
Not worth risking the $100 ticket. Under the law, they can pull you over just for the plate frame. The good news in NC, is we only have rear plates, so you can put whatever you want on the front.
